THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
They translated the manga bit by bit to anime, unbelievably close adaption.
I hope it will live up once getting used to all characters, the beginning wasn't bad but improvable

I just watched the first 5 minutes of raw and...

SHAFT STOP WITH THAT FUCKIN EYE SCENE OMG

I'm really getting sick of this; and it's heart-breaking for someone like me who loves past SHAFT products. Hopefully, this will be the last experiment from Shinbou doing all those slow motion close ups since Bakemonogatari. I mean, they'e already fucked up Dance in the Vampire Bund with this.

I just hope original content is brilliant, which I think it is. I will comment once again after waiting for Formula's sub.

So, there are many short stories in one ep? (3 min/ ep. and there are 8/9 eps. in 24 mins?)

The main character's father is too... and Maaya-san's character is from out of earth?

will comment again when subs are out, but from what I've seen from the Raw. This show seems kind of twisted which is ok with me. That frog man thing was just insane lol.

Surprisingly, this wasn't bad. Of course, I might only think this because the other shows I've seen this season so far were shit.

That said, "sudden girlfriend appearance" has to be one of the worst tropes used in anime, ever.

^ Formula is the only one from what I know. They are semi-speed sub; took about a day or a couple before release.

Edited: Seems like GG's doing it too.

Not as pretentious as Bakemono and it seems that this a true adaptation of the manga, not some "original" shit. Hopefully SHAFT won't fuck this one up.

It seems that SHAFT finally made something pretty good. Much more better than DitVB and Bakemonogatari - but I hope that I won't have to wait 3 months for the last ep...
Though I have to agree that these eyes scenes are f*cking annoying.

Pretty much THIS.

The episode was so... weird... and like most of the people here, it is mindfuck but in a good way.
The premise is kinda intriguing and this one looks more interesting than Bund.

BTW, [Nutbladder] released it already.

Aw, that was fun. This is almost like a deconstructed version of the "sudden girlfriend" trope.

Yeah, it was incredibly weird but it's like a good kind of weird.

When Kou Ric was looking side-to-side, I was so positive they were about to do a Zetsubou Sensei reference.

Another show that seems to be highly influenced by psychedelic drugs which is animated by Shaft. Who would've thought?

This has potential I must say.

The whole eye scene stuff didn't really bother me, even tho it's getting old. Oh well, let's say it's kinda a trademark. Only thing I didn't really like, was that Kamiya sounded really too much like Zetsubou Sensei. He usually manages better at changing his voice :/

Oh, thank god! Shaft are back on their game! I was really worried about this one... it looked really trippy, and could've easily been really good... but judging by DitVB, I thought they'd really screw up. But this is easily the best first episode of anything to come out this season so far! Also, this seems like a goldmine for good character development, for some reason.

Personally, I give this episode a 7/10.

Took me literally 10 seconds to realized Arakawa Under the Bridge was a SHAFT production. The animation is too distinct, and who else has an eyeball fetish like SHAFT?

This series better not get SHAFTed like always.....

Agreed, there were some real animation issues, but nothing bad enough to kill it. Unless they take it to Vampire Bund levels... that'd be a real shame.

Loved the opening background music, really got me in the right mood.

A mind bender, but really got my laughing, especially the flash back of Ko's Dad, thinking the major was a kappa, and Nino sleeping in the drawer. It'll be interesting to see where this one goes!

naaaa.... that was very unique! The SHAFTy SHAFTness ^^ But somehow it felt too rushed.. or maybe I felt like something's missing, I felt some emptyness in it. Which is kinda disappointing. Yet I keep my hopes for the next episodes. Besides, the crazyness of the show will definately keep me watching it - it's hard to find something original these days.

The moment Nino turned her head was so Senjougaharish... blah...

I realized the eye troubled me only when I read about it being troubling for some of you. So you guys are now to blame for this! ^^

While I was writing these lines, I just realised Nino and Shiki have the same seiyuu. Which is good since I like her voice. But is also bad 'cause they really sound similar... it's weird but I really didn't notice Kou was voiced by Zetsubou sensei. Lucky me!

The last scene with Nino sleeping in the bed's drawer was priceless!

That was so.... strange. In a good way. Glad to see SHAFT got their shit together for this one. Hopefully they don't screw this one up.

The dialogue is even stranger than the stuff in Bakemonogatari. Nino is pretty awesome though. I just rofl'd when I saw her sleeping in the bed's drawer instead of actually on it. The kappa guy was pretty wtf too... especially the live action one in the preview. That was just strange.

Okay episode. I was bothered by the inconsistencies in animation quality, however - some parts were really shitty. Other than that, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy this show, though I have to admit that Shinbou's direction is starting to get a bit old. Nino sleeping in the drawer made me lol.

Woah, what did I just watch?

It was good in a SHAFT kinda way. It's nice to hear Hiroshi Kamiya in yet another SHAFT anime as the lead role. (My favorite's still Araragi, though.) I guess I just might maybe get a better understanding if I read the manga? But considering this plot, I might not.

Anyways, this seems like it'll be entertaining so I'll keep with it. *Looking forward to Tomokazu Sugita's character*
