Looking for some depressing anime to watch that’s actually good, if you know any name your top/favorite ones. I already know Eva and Clannad afterstory exist

5 Centimeters Per Second perhaps, there’s quite a lot of people that believe it’s a depressing film (I didn’t feel that way while watching it but that’s just my opinion, so it’s worth a watch to see if it’s up your alley)

serial experiments lain
ima, soko ni iru boku

here's 3 essentials, and honestly, Evangelion is the one that portrays outright depression most accurately since Anno was going through it at the time of creating nge. these ones are dark in a different sense, though

NHK, this one explores the themes of depression and anxiety, but i personally didn't find it that depressing. the themes are there, though

Ef
Kanon
AnoHana
Guilty Crown
Violent Evergarden
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien
Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka?

You need to search among the old shows, up the first half of the last decade you will find plenty. Unfortunately studios no longer produce them today.

Depends on what type of depressive shows you are looking for.

Texhnolyze - It's not a show that will make you cry, it'll make you feel empty due to its heavy theming in nihilism.

If you want anime that will make you cry definitely go for Clannad After Story, nothing beats it. Some other recommendations are March Comes in Like a Lion, Violet Evergarden and A Silent Voice.

If you want to cry like a 5 year old girl, I recommend these anime, see I warned you:

3-gatsu no Lion
Plastic Memories
Death Parade
Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka?
Koe no Katachi (I also recommend the manga, since the movie does not cover the whole story).
Byousoku 5 Centimeter
Giovanni no Shima
Houseki no Kuni

I would also recommend Anohana and Angel Beats!, but everyone knows them.

Not mentioned yet:
Chirin no Suzu. That movie may look cute, but it is actually quite depressing.

+1:
If you loved Puella Magi Madoka Magica, then there's a chance you'll enjoy a very similar but much older magical girl show—Uta∽Kata.

Some more anime to try:
Happy watching~

I actually have the manga but still need to read it lmao, I’ve heard a lot of arguments over whether the manga or anime is better but I think it depends on which you see first Idk
