Is kaiju no 8 kinda " overhyped " ?

I heard so much about kaiju no 8 on the internet and how it's the next big thing, and I've seen it having amazing sales in Japan so i was convinced it's something special.
I caught up to it ( 43 chapters as of the writing of this) and i gotta say... it's pretty good, but it didn't blow my mind or anything, am not trying to hate or anything i actually enjoyed reading it , i just expected more because of all the hype around it.
The character designs and art are decent ( the kaijus look great though), the action is really good , but the plot feels like it's missing some originality and some creativity which doesn't make it bad it just doesn't make it stand out as much.
Overall it's definitely a good and enjoyable series but just a bit overhyped , at least to me.
(PS : please be nice if you disagree with me, am not trying to start a fight or anything LOL)

Just want to say that I totaly agree with you.
It's good atm but I don't really understand why there is so much hype

Yep it is overhyped , the plot and character are mediocre but you can't deny that its enjoyable , regarding the sales so... japanese people love kaiju so its obvious a good story related to kaijus will be pretty famous there.... I mean look at demon slayers' sales tho

I dont even know if there are still hype about this manga hahaha
I think it has the formula (nice designs, likeable character, adult mc, sexy and strong female, little mystery, and great fights) to get more popularity and anime adaptation

i think the potential of being a good manga is what make it hyped as you can see even if the recent chapters are slow but still.

Yeah, it is. The manga is 5 at best. It's cheesy with cool looking suits and kaijus.

Apparently Japanese love it I mean real love it so what other countries think don't really matter dude. Manga sales in Japan what matters most to mangakas.

No, I think it deserves the hype it got. Idk what's your standard when it comes to art to the point you say Monster #8's art looks ""decent""... actually it's so nice and detailed, compared to other ongoing mangas rn. the art is one of its strong point. story-wise, the plot is mainstream but the characters are what making it interesting. of course someone who reads 43 chapters in one sitting would have different view with someone who anticipates a story unfolding 1 chapter to 1 chapter every week

As much as I like it you right. It hasnt peaked enough for me to praise it higher yet. Hopefully it does blow my expectations out the water with some amazing story

I absolutely loved it. More enjoyable than most of its peers that came out around 2020 or 2021 in my opinion. Only one that comes as a close second for me is Spy x Family (though different genres).

The art is good for an action manga, probably the reason why it's hyped. The story offers nothing new though, and the pacing needs work.

I think the overhype was more at the beginning but I think it’s calmed down now. While the story isn’t anything amazing I think the manga shines at the action.

Def overhyped. I can't believe it's getting an anime. 76 chapters and it feels like nothing has really happened. It honestly should've stayed with MC being a janitor. Prob gonna drop tbh.

When Kaiju no. 8 dropped it was some unknown jump plus series, it got to where it was by being hyped up by those enjoying it. So any perceived "overhype" just shows how many people are enjoying it.

At the end of the day people love Kaiju, in Japan particularly sure, but even globally where it's more niche it has dedicated and passionate fandoms. How many good/great Kaiju manga are there? There will always be those that flock to any Kaiju series as long as it's decent. Being an 8 out of 10 or higher is a major W in the case of a Kaiju Manga, and Kaiju No. 8 has been at least that since it started.
