| Mal ratings have always been broken. No game no life and Uzaki chan are rated pg-13 when they should be rated R+ for mild nudity. Now that I think about it, Code geass should also have a R+ rating when it simply as a R-17 rating for violence. SilverSwift_ said: chi4ko said: What are you doing, MAL? | There's a lot of BL with explicit sex scenes that aren't rated R or labeled as hentai for whatever reason. The only ones are Sensitive Pornograph and the Pico trilogy. Edit: Hot Space Cowboys too For context, Yarichin and Saezuru Tori are both rated R+ for "mild nudity" despite both having multiple explicit on screen sex scenes and completely naked characters. (Not saying Umibe should be labeled as hentai to be clear, just that it should have a higher rating) |

| It's not My Anime's List's decision. I just watched this film, and the very last thing on the screen was a PG-12 logo. I looked up Japanese movie ratings online, and found this description of that rating: "PG-12: Parental Guidance Requested. Some material may be unsuitable for children under 12. Parents are advised to accompany their children during the film. May contain violent content, sexual content, use of drugs as well as underage drinking, smoking or driving." My guess is that the rating was based on the original Japanese rating, that it didn't even get rated by the MPAA in the US. That's probably allowed, as I don't think it had a theatrical release. I looked further-IMDB has it rated TV-14, which is basically the same rating moved up a couple years. IMDB also had a parent's guide, where it had several international ratings. It's rated PG 12 in the UK and Japan, PG 13 in the Philippines. In Germany it's rated 18, in Russia 18+. So, these things are largely cultural. While I would expect it to be rated higher in the US due to that small bit of dialog and the capricious and overly conservative rating system in place here, I personally didn't see anything inappropriate for the average 12-14 year old. |

| I'm not sure you know the meaning of explicit? We see nothing, only hear them narrating what's happening as they hold still without moving. An explicit sex scene would involve seeing genitals and actual thrusting or some sort of closeup. But I agree it shouldn't be rated pg-13. |
