SEASON 2 WAS CONFIRMED LETSSS GOOO. I knew there was no way this masterpiece wouldn't get a season 2. From the pain, to happiness, to the life lessons, to the development, thank you To Your Eternity for giving us all this plus much more. Although I wish it was a happier journey for Furshi.

what a Wholesome and Sad Season Finale...
so this whole time the best girl was PIORAN???

Man Dementia is no joke, i have experience it myself with my grandma.
this things hit hard for me.

as soon as i saw the smoke gone from the campfire, i knew it.
and when the OST hits, i cried again just like fushi did.

damn Young Pioran was way more beautful than Rean.
so she got her wish and turn into the orb? is it the same orb as Fushi or a new orb?
if it was the same orb, does this mean Fushi will Transform into Young Pioran?
i'm really curious, can't wait until Next year.
Season 2 Fall 2022.

Wow what an Amazing Anime, One of the Best Anime from Spring 2021.
I think i cried at least 5 times.
Another Amazing Work from the same Author that did "A Silent Voice".

9/10

Oh, and of course the show has one more death to churn out for one last dose of forced tragedy. Honestly, when more or less everyone Fushi befriends (except the insufferable Tonari, for some reason) is fated to die because of this show's plot structure, who fucking cares anymore?

To be perfectly blunt, this show peaked with its first episode: that boy's death in the snow after his hopes of a utopia for his people was handled perfectly from a tonal and directing perspective, and the emotion hit perfectly. Since then, though, the show has gradually unravelled at the seams: March was annoying and her death was painfully contrived, Gugu wasn't much better but his arc at least ended on a strong emotional note, and the Jananda Arc was an absolute disaster on every level.

Plotholes all over the place and contrivances everywhere else, along with a plot structure that stopped working due to its blunt predictability: after a while, getting attached to anyone was an impossibility as it was so obvious that the show was going to kill them in an act of emotional manipulation. In that regard, this series was so poorly written that I struggle to believe it was truly written by Yoshitoki Oima just like A Silent Voice was: I know not everything an author writes is going to be of the same quality, but the difference between this and that is so drastic it's hard to comprehend.

I wish I hadn't seen that first episode to end up watching this disappointment. So many weeks wasted in the vain hope it would ever find that level of quality again.

3/10. So, so incredibly disappointing after such a powerful first episode.

I'm glad this episode was more visually pleasing compared to some of the previous episodes. Like the Tonari arc took place in such a location that even if the animation looked right the visuals would still look pretty mute. Both the animation and actual backgrounds looked good in the last episode.
I'm glad we won't have to wait long for the 2nd season. Great that they announced it so soon too otherwise would've been disappointing after that cliffhanger. My expectations are high.

Pioran will be missed.

I’m still sobbing over Pioran’s death. I knew she was old, but she had a lot of fight in her. I was sure she was gonna live to be well over 100. She hung on long enough to see Fushi again and spend a little time with him before her end.

Pioran, in her youth, was the prettiest of them all.

So glad for a 2nd season! I guess I’ll pick up the manga in the meantime.

Honestly, this is the decent end by seeing the end of Pioran life like that. Always felt emotional when the older person slowly got that childish state, dying, and made the last wish, not different with Pioran's case. But, the good thing is, she able to made a contact with the black being, and, well, useful for Fushi, for the future event. Good thing that they are also straight planning to produce second season. If not, ugh, all that progression feel nothing to me.

But for this, with the fact of Pioran end, i think i can end this one at a solid 7. Enjoyable enough for me, but not so much, considering all the quality derivation at Tonari's arc. Hopefully its get better in 2022. Thats it all for me.

Man, what a beautiful finale, and also the perfect place to end the season. I thought this would have been the perfect place to end the season while I was reading the manga, glad it did. I'd say this episode was on par with the first episode, started with a banger and ended with a banger. I kinda wished the Jananda arc was adapted better, besides the last episode of the arc it was kind of iffy, but as a whole it's still a really great adaptation. Can't wait for season 2 next year. 9/10

I never expected such a strong finale. Pioran's death was obvious from preview, but everything else - great show of Fushi's emotions, brutal portrayal of aging, huge timeskip - got me surprised very positively.
While I liked this anime a lot, I didn't care much for 2nd season. Only after this 20th episode I actually want to see more. One year wait, eh...

A very calm, slow-paced episode for the finale of this 1st season. The degradation of Piolan's health to her death is pretty sad but there is also a beauty behind it. Human life come with death and that's natural, you have to accept it. This wisdom was even kind of satisfying if I can say. This episode hit different.

Now I'm very curious on how things will go on. I expect a new setting for season 2 with a more advanced civilization and, at the end, a future arc... Coul be really awesome. Btw, the new look of Fushi is a little bit disturbing lamo, maybe he won't last long like this.
Well, as after watching the very first ep, I'm really hyped. Will try to not be spoiled by manga readers.

So that girl was Pioran from the opening all along huh. Nice foreshadowing. When Pioran turned into that girl I was like, "Ohhhhh"
Criticiza said:
What a ride and what a way to end it, everyone aging and pioran slowly succumbing to death goddamn.

The symbolism this episode was flipping freaky. Fushi acting how the unnamed boy was with his dog form, nursing him and not wanting to let the dog be alone being reflected in how fushi couldn't not care about pioran, to how march was mothering fushi and fushi then reflected that to pioran, how his self-sacrificial nature of gugu saving reann translated into fushi taking care of pioran, then to how the comradery of the kids on the island was shown through fushi being content with traveling alongside another. Then when pioran was slowly descending into madness, how she accepted and welcomed death, signified by the fire smoke teetering out showing her resolve as well, then the pathetic fallacy of the rain as pioran was dead, to the somewhat cyclical red nose of crying and moving on from death and accepting it, piorans wishes of trasnforming into her younger self similar to how a doting parent would want to look after their child for eternity which hit close to home, this episode was a masterpiece through and through.

Whilst the series itself had its fair share of ups and downs, the first episode and last episodes were by far my favourites, showing fushi's growth through and through impressively through a brilliant 20 minute each narrative. Whilst the first episode was oscar worthy as a self contained story packed with emotions of finding what fushi was, this episode was packed with feelings of why fushi was, an internal struggle brilliantly touched on in every episode, moreso by this one. The end clip with an older looking fushi - older than 14 of course, shows how the fight with the nokkers are only continuing, with bigger and better things to come in winter 2022.

My god. How the heck did I miss this symbolism? Thank you so much for pointing it out.

That was quite the emotional episode, and an amazing end to this 20-episode journey. It has been quite the ride.

Who would have thought that when we first met Pioran, she'd play such an important role in Fushi's life? Whereas March was Fushi's mother, Pioran was his grandmother.

After suffering through so many early deaths, it is quite poetic and fitting that Fushi's final lesson this season is to experience a natural death, and the withering of human beings that precedes it. Dementia really hits hard.

Their relationship was very touching, even if it had a rough start. But I'm glad that Fushi managed to experience Pioran's last moments, and finally it was something that Fushi could not blame himself for. Because everyone dies.

Wow, so the Observer can be seen by others if he wants to. And that was quite brave and loving of Pioran, to ask to be reincarnated into something more useful to Fushi. It was quite epic, seeing the Observer say to Pioran that he'll take her before she's taken by Paradise. The music really fit too. This manga/anime feels like it's on a grand scale, and unlike some other series it doesn't reveal to us everything. Even now, we still don't know what the Observer is, and now, how can he take someone before Paradise takes them? Is he God? A god, the God? A demon? The devil? Or neither, or something in between?

And young Pioran was really beautiful.

I wonder what she'll reincarnate as. I hope when the time comes, Fushi will realise that it is Pioran in a new form. Glad that he got to bury Pioran. And it really goes to show how much Fushi loves her that he took care of her so patiently when her mind began to deteriorate.

And wow, a look at future Fushi? He looks like he might be in his 40s. He seems like a cool, easygoing dude by looks only lol and it seems he's got better at fighting Nokkers. Excited to see the second season.

Also, quite sad that we'll never know the name of the boy whom Fushi first met, whose form he has taken as his primary form.

Here I was thinking "hey, we're about to end the show, what about that girl in the OP??"... And she was Pioran all along lol. It was nice, though.

So... My favorite character from this anime was easily Gugu, so it's unfortunate that he died.
And jesus christ... That Hayase bitch just gets on my nerves. I hope she would have died at the March arc cause she's insufferable. I don't know if she ended up dead or alive but I hope she's dead.

This show had one of the best pilot episodes I've ever seen. I remember thinking "Holy shit, if all the show is this good, this may be a new 10/10!"... Sadly, it wasn't the case. No other episode came even remotely close to that first one (the last one was really good, though). I even put it on hold to binge the second cour, cause I wasn't feeling it (at least to watch it weekly).

All in all it was good I think, but not great. I'll come back for the second season.

man this was the best episode in the series so far due to our long investment with the character and her relationship with Fushi was quite sad even if we knew it was coming.

i keep hearing how different of a path this goes and it gets good so looking forward to S2 next year that ending left me questioning where the hell its going now

overall i liked this a lot while the repeated deaths and the spoiler of a opening really didnt help this season from feeling predicable i just enjoyed seeing the character growth of fushi 7.5 8 if the last arc was as strong as the final two episodes

The quality in this episode were back to the way it started. It was refreshing.

Pioran played an important role in Fushi's life. It's a good thing that she had a natural death instead of being killed by the Nokkers.

That glimpse of Pioran in her youth was beautiful.

Also who was that guy in the end, was it Fushi because he didn't transform for a while and developed some weird personality?

It was really a rollercoaster of emotions from feeling heartbroken for the death of a lovable character to feeling disgust for an insane character. Even if the animation quality worsened and the story seemed to deteriorate for some of us because of some unlikeable character, in my opinion I believe that it was the sole purpose of this anime since this is about Fushi growing as a human and experiencing new emotions while traveling and meeting new people. So, I think this anime did a great job.

Overall 8/10.
Can't wait for season 2!

I do not really like Piolan, especially at the end, she's very annoying; so seeing the phantom guy give her an orb...
I hope she's not gonna become like Fushi, that'd ruin the whole point of Fushi being the only one capable of morphing into objects and animals, and having to deal with immortality, mortality, etc...
I don't know how signatures work

Oh man, after the Jananda arc it's good to know that the series can still hit you hard. Pioran :'(

You know, as I watched the OP for the last time and saw that girl walking on the beach I thought, "Wait, this is the last episode and we still haven't seen her... is she young Pioran?" And it was her! Although I was expecting to see her in a flashback or something, not the way we finally did. That was such a great scene. I'm really curious to know how the pact she made with the guy in black works. She asked him to be reborn but what does the orb imply? Is it the same as with Fushi? Thank God we will have season 2.

Also, it seems that Hayase is still alive.... or something like that because as we saw in the previous episode, the Nokkers seem to be involved.

And so it ends, with a wonderful last episode like the first one was, if not more. Kind of a shame about the Jananda arc because it was definitely the weakest point of the story but even so, overall, it was a great series. Looking forward to season 2!

Liked the show overall. The Janada Arc got a bit boring in the middle but it redeemed itself in the last few episodes, especially this final episode was powerful. Gugu Arc was still my favorite while March Arc was my least favorite, nonetheless, great show. Back when I first started it, I thought it was going to make me cry at least once, especially since it's by the creator of A Silent Voice, one of my favorite shows of all time but I didn't and that wasn't a problem because the themes and development are what intrigued me and what made me stay with the show.

I have some questions.
1. How much time has passed since Pioran made it out of the Jananda and Fushi finding her? Because she looks really senile all of a sudden in the new episode.

2. What was the younger Pioran scene about? And she disappears into the white orb? Was it her dream before dying moments or is it something I'm missing?

Several decades have passed, eh. Tonari might be dead by now. And she didn't get to meet Fushi again. Oh and what happened to her bird that was accompanying Fushi? Didn't see it in the last episode.

Even tho she couldnt fight she helped Fushi a lot about being humans how they have emotions, learn to write and talk. Pioran will be missed and im glad the dude in the black helped Pioran to turn into something better than her current state.

This was one of the best anime of this year imo but I still have a few nitpicks with it.

The 4 year timeskip without Nokkers attacking and Hayase being alive after all this time feel forced.

They just wanted a way for Fushi to learn the basics of being a human and have a human villain that would last but I feel it could have been done better.
Even though she is most likely dead now after the boat attack I'm pretty sure she will still be very important moving on.

Overall it's a 8/10. The Island Arc was not as good as the rest.

I hope the S2 is even better.

First episode - 10/10
March arc - 8/10
Gugu arc - 9/10
Janada arc - 6/10
Final episode - 9/10

This anime had so much high moments that did right that really makes me sad to give "only" an 8/10. Janada arc really was crucial in here. With that being said, what an last episode. It reminded why I always believed this would be one of the best anime of this year. And I find it hard for it not to be the best OST tbh.

A bit unrelated, but this emotional impact is what I think it was missing on Fruits Basket The Final, while Fruits Basket has the consistency it was lacking with Fumetsu.

I feel like without the Tonari arc, this could have been a great show. The first couple arcs were painful and had engaging characters. One thing I think people forget is that in his mind, Fushi is the age of what, a 14 y/o? So even with his tremendous powers, it's unlikely he will be able to use those in the most effective way because he has limited life experience - particularly as a human. The flash-forward makes me excited for the next season because it indicates Fushi has gained that life experience and may be able to navigate his journey in a more engaging manner. What will his relationships, combat, and strategy look like now that he has had time to accept his reality and develop as a human person?

I don't think I will find best words to describe this...this anime for me was... really top notch, maybe because I really love good stories and emotional aspects, and one of the most important part was that the soundtrack was top level. I don't know exactly how to describe how good this anime feels to me. Characters - most of the characters are very well written, you actually care what will happen with them, they're not with same cliche shounen backgrounds. Story - it has so much potential, so so much, and in the way that ends first season, this is definitely very good approach to continue the story. Music - as i already said earlier, top class. The art was very balanced - which i very much liked it, colorful with mixes of darkness. In my opinion this is the best anime for this spring so far.
Thank you, very much for this good adaptation Brain's Base.

well well well, finally it is over, we are left with literally no conclusions or at least some more insight/idea about "I don't even know", this is how confusing this show was. Quite the emotional ending though. I would give it a 6 if it was a one-season anime (and a 5 if I binge-watched it coz I think it would have been boring af), but because there is a sequel I will give it a 7, coz I really need some answers and am curious what the second season will bring for us.

I was pretty underwhelmed by the Tonari arc but this final episode was a strong way to finish season 1. Seeing Fushi care for Pioran, along with coming up with ways to make sure she stayed safe from the Nokkers, was heartwarming, but then seeing her get dementia and lose her sense of self was heartbreaking. She was aware of the robed guy's presence, and the way he helped her move on was a beautiful scene to watch. Of course that loss was tough for Fushi but he overcame it. Although this show kind of lost steam after the Gugu arc, it definitely rebounded a bit with this finale. Goodbye for now to one of my favorite shows over these last few months, and can't wait for S2!!

I completely agree. I am not a fan of the Jananda/Tonari arc. It was entirely too long. I feel like the entire arc was just to bring Hayase back

Dementia is no joke for someone who have to deal wtih such person.

Pioran death hit me harder then I expected. Still, Tonari arc was just weak.

See you in S2 i guess.

A fitting conclusion for the season. Although there were some poorly-written arcs, Gugu's arc and this last episode were enough to make this series worth watching.

This series was a meh overall, so many potentials but instead they forced unnecessary plot twist and character developments just to kill the character, lmao what ?
