I remember being slightly disappointed while reading through volume 2 because while it wasn't bad it just wasn't as amazing as volume 1, but I also pointed out that it's just a setup volume and will be worth it if the payoff in volume 3 is good. Well, guess what? It was so worth it!

This volume focuses on the rescue of Pete and also about the antagonist of the volume, Ophelia. I'll give Pete credit for breaking out of her prison by himself and also for the last attack but unfortunately, even after his "arc", he's still my least favorite of the sword roses group.

Oliver and Co's descent into the labyrinth was amazing because we got a glimpse into the interesting and fascinating world of Kimberley as well as some much-needed battle practice at the observation of their "lovely senpai"

The ending though took my breath away with Ophelia and Carlo's final moment which was tragic but in the end the most "happy" ending we could've gotten at that point.

This volume cements the series place as one of my new favorites among the new LN's to come out these past 2-3 years because it has now shown that the darkness at Kimberley is not just all talk but very real and the author went through with it!

Can't wait for the next volume in November

Those were fairly dark topics related to sex, gender, and sexual acts. Particularly, a surprisingly semi-realistic take on what the life of a succubus would be. Not a light-hearted fanservice character. For a side antagonist, Ophelia got quite a bit of backstory, easily putting some main villains in other series to shame. What a miserable life. Her mother was also dumped due to her aspirations as a succubus. You might naively think that being a succubus would be great for marriage, but if you think about it for a second, clearly not. I wasn't super-invested in her character, but it was clearly above average at least, and an interesting take.

Bonus points for a gay man calling her out on magically affecting his sexual orientation. I hadn't thought of that problem.

And of course we get the juxtaposition:
Guy jokingly suggests that Oliver and Vera may be having light-hearted sexual fun, when in reality she is suspecting him of hiding a dangerous background.

Albright is crazy prepared, and Pete is capable of making sufficiently smart calls to escape. Points for competence.

Ophelia is a tragic person. It is such a shame that she ended up going down the path that she went down. It feels like she's a living embodiment of how this current twisted mage world can twist a person.
