I would like everyone to approach this thread as if you were going to write a review and structure your initial post like this: Animation - insert rating Sound - insert rating Characters - insert rating Story - insert rating Enjoyment - insert rating Animation - discuss any pros and cons of the animation styling used in the series, try to include some specifics. Sound - describe any of the things you liked or didn't care for in regards to the music and sound effects used in the series etc... If you are having trouble writing up a review or coming up with specific pro's and cons, please don't worry. Just do the best you can with it and if you can only write two or three sentences about any of the 5 elements then that's OK. Not everyone here is currently at a level which will allow them to articulate their thoughts and opinions. After your initial post is made you can feel free to civilly discuss issues of contention. I am sure there will be many opinions expressed here that some of us will disagree upon and criticize and it is for that reason that this entire club exists. | Man, I have too much nostalgia for this to really vote adequately. Ninja Scroll might be the first anime I got on a VCR and rewatched a bunch of times over the years. Even then I can hardly say in what way it would be exemplary. Story? There's nothing really there. Animation? Well, it's good but nothing out of the ordinary for its time or action anime movies in general. Action? It's nice but not awfully creative. Still, there's such a dense atmosphere to this movie. If there's one thing that comes off strongly in anything Kawajiri directed it's the atmosphere. The designs, the colors, the general mood. It's stylish but also lifeless and desolate. I think that elevates what would normally be a generic horror-action into something more interesting. While I hope more people watch his shit I'd still have to vote no cause I can't imagine NS being an awfully entertaining movie to people who don't have a soft spot for the presentation of it. |

| This is pretty much on the level of average stand-alone 90's OVA. I suspect the higher than expected mean score on this site is due to nostalgia caused by the early distribution of the movie in the west. After all, 3 out of the 4 top reviews start off by saying how it was their first or among the first anime watched. |
