It may have anime inspired elements,but its not an anime. Therefore it shouldn't be added to the database. Its a great show though

But there are plenty of series on here than are not anime or "native anime". A bit pretentious if you are willing to add those and not Castlevania just because its western.

It's nothing to do with being "pretentious". The mods do not "choose" what goes in or out, they have to cite external sources which prove whether or not a thing fits the guidelines.

The strict guidelines exist so that the decisions made by any one moderator will be the same as the decisions made by any other moderator.

Imagine if the mods could just add anything if "they" think it "should" be here, because it "feels right". There's no guarantee that all the mods will agree about any of that. So they'd have to have a mechanism such as voting. Voting = politics = bullshit = drama. It would totally suck basically. Imagine if there were 9 mods and 4 of them wanted to add Avatar but 5 didn't. Then, Avatar fans might start harassing the anti-Avatar moderators to try and get them to quit MAL in the hopes that new moderators would fill the gaps and vote to include Avatar. But there would be no guarantee that it would stay in the database either, since mods can come and go and there might be a point it gets voted out of the database again. So you really don't want them to be able to add series on an ad-hoc decision basis because then it's entirely ad-hoc whether they remove stuff too.

So, instead of that, they have rules about what's in the database and what type of evidence is allowed to prove that. And then it's either in or out depending on the evidence. So mods can argue about which show is in or out, but they don't get to "decide" they have to show some third-party information to prove their point. It just works better that way.

Probably because they aren't actually anime. RWBY has some manga though. Like, actual manga.

I have understood only the Japanese animation can be classified as anime, given the case as an avatar that I know of a great animation but it was always an American product
