The major thing that the series is missing

I really like Shirobako. It's probably my favorite of this kind of industry-focused anime. However, I want to see a sequel where Aoi and her friends actually start working together for their dream from their club days, not just working towards building their skills and connections at seperate companies.

I don't know if anything has been announced yet, but that would make this series utterly perfect

No...from what I've read on MAL, the manga is about their high school lives. Am I mistaken?

Yes. I know you were thinking of a professional anime, but the full story of the anime they made together in school is really great. It would probably scratch this itch.
