Do you think this movie is gonna start a trend of other properties putting Manga arcs in films instead of stand alone cash grab films?

A lot of people when talking about this film say that it's unique from other anime films in that it actually is canon to the manga instead of a stand alone movie like most Anime films are.

Could this make Boku No Hero Academia, One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, etc or any big anime want to go down the same route of doing manga arcs on the big screen instead of doing a season on TV?

personally, i would say yes. imo, a big reason why mugen train got so much hype was because it’s content is an actual part of the story. you could argue that even though other series did the same (such as SAO), they didn’t get as much hype or change the usual trend of stand alone anime films. but i think that since demon slayer got so much hype this time around (as well as there being a bigger audience), it could definitely lead to more canon movies. also i think jujutsu kaisen is doing something similar with their upcoming movie, it’s part of the story but is more of a prequel (i think). this could have been influenced by the success of mugen train - who knows! i’m pleased either way tbh, i’m always grateful for new content for my favorite series

I hope it wont become a trend cause the movie wasnt very good, it was too long, you cant do a whol arc in a movie cause it is too long

I do suspect a trend (especially the fact JJK and quintessential quintuplets are getting a move which is canon) the only thing I’ll hate is waiting for it in America let alone online

It'll be a pain since it's like a 2 year wait. It sucks

I hope not because I don't usually go to the theater and demon slayer was really popular but if smaller anime try it they will probably fail

They've already been doing that since like, at least 2018 or 2019. KyoAni, ufotable, Shaft, A-1/CloverWorks, Production I.G, Bones, Madhouse and other studios have already been taking advantage of movies that way for a while now; it did not start with KnY. Even Lerche and David Pro released movies this summer doing the same thing before the KnY movie came out.

After Demon Slayer the movie trend is slowly starting. Jujutsu Kaisen and Black Clover are getting movies, although unlike DS these movies aren’t sequels, it still shows what impact Infinity Train movie had on the industry.

I honestly think that this will be the case for future animes. The entire experience of watching an entire arc of manga in film form is so good, depending on the length of the arc.

Made in Abyss, Demon Slayer, Konosuba, Violet Evergarden, JJK already playing that game. Wondering which series Will de that next. A Chainsaw Man movie covering an specific arc of the manga would be a dream of mine, but that's probably not going to happen.

Made in abyss was already on this trend a year ago. If it makes money, it's going to happen.... And keep happening.

It has already started.
Jujutsu Kaisen is getting a canon movie next year.
Quintessential Quintuplets is also getting a canon movie.
My hero academia or One pice would certainly not get canon movies as each arc in the anime is very long.
Considering the pacing in My hero academia(Manga reader here btw) it is impossible to even get a canon movie.
Can't say anything about one piece as i haven't watched nor read it.

Yes JJK movie isn't a sequel but it's still canon. They still haven't confirmed whether Black clover will be canon or not.

They are, JJK is getting a Prequel film which is cannon, Quintissential Quintuplets is getting a Cannon movie and Black Clover too. The only reason I dont like movies is because I have to wait so much lol, They take forever to release on a streaming service or Blu-ray.

I would assume so, it’s the only anime movie I know of that is canon to the original show, literally no other anime movie has done this well ever, so I think the anime industry will see this as a sign to stop making god awful non-canon movies

I don't think so. Demon slayer anime had amazing production value and because of that it became such a phenomenon both worldwide and especially, Japan. I thought that animation studios would come to realize that to make more money you have to put in equal effort. Alas, it seems that the trend of mediocre production quality anime continues as it's always has been.

I am sure it will make this trend popular.

Also, Demon Slayer has a couple of big arcs coming up, but imagine if they made the finale into a movie? If some random middle arc, made all the bank, then the Demon Slayer grand finale would make 7 times more money.

Gintama made the last arc into a Movie.

Evangelion did some crazy canon shit with their movies.

Fate did all kinds of canon shit with its movies.

On one hand, everything gets better when it's in a Movie. But on the other, you have to wait for like half a year if you're not in Japan.

I'd prefer if they kept the serialised parts inside the serialised anime just because of accessibility. That's why JJK movie, since it's a prequel, I don't have much of a problem with getting it late.

I doubt any of the other arcs will be put into movie format the train arc was the shortest, it only made sense for it to be a movie over a season

I think the trend started with Dragon Ball super Broly .While not as much as Demon Slayer, the hype for this movie was insane!(I don't count BoG and RoF because there wasn't the Super anime yet)

im guessing they ll start testing the waters after this one with extra canon content getting animated what with stuff like Jujutsu 0 and Sword art online Progressive happening. so we could see a few of those for a bit for animes that have those lying around and then move on to actually doing short arcs like this into movies more frequently.

I hope not this movie was shit. God when they shove shit into a 2 hour movie when it should take 12 episodes it’s really kills tension. Imagine if they did that to the Berserk Golden Age Arc ahahahha..... fuck me

I don't think so. Mugen Train is successful because Demon Slayer is successful, not the other way around. DS was booming in popularity in Japan from it's manga and first season even before the movie came out. The movie was just a bonus that ended up exploding even more.

The movie success treatment isn't gonna work for less popular shows, so no.

I don't think the trend is a bad thing. I watched Made In Abyss 3 and Mugen in the theatre and the cinematic experience imo is better than streaming at home. TBH really depends on the production put in for the movie, anything by ufotable I gladly wait another year post-release.
