THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Not going to lie, this was kinda beautiful. The way the visuals is used in stylish ways of the character body movements. As it focuses on gynmnatics, there's momentum in every move. Soundtrack also works well for those scenes imo.

It's a very sporty anime featuring competition. Futaba is quite a normal person but perhaps there's a lot of potential in him.

Definitely exceeded my expectations.

Another sports anime (and an original), this time featuring Men's Rhythmic Gymnastics. And I can tell that this'll be more or less the same when compared to last season's Skate-Leading Stars in terms of plot, because it's the same genericness of newbie fascination, to then joining the sports club. Not pretty sure why we need shows like this, but I'd guess it's because of the Tokyo Olympics 2021 that we're getting featured sports, and there'll be more to welcome the IRL main event.

But holy wowsers did Zexcs nail the 2DCG gymnastics sequence from the get-go, it looks very elegant and majestic from every angle.

Newbie Futaba Shoutarou seems like an all-rounder nervous wreck, while all-star ace athlete Misato Ryouya is quite the pompous character who's skilled at every level. Teaching Futaba about gymnastics will be a challenge, starting from the basic backflip.

Gonna keep expectations low for this one Re-watching this a 2nd time, and I'm more than just hopeful for Zexcs's animation that's at the very least: SOLID AND FLUID, hopefully the story stacks up better, because this is one of the un-ironically better premieres of the Spring season.

My expectations were already low so this episode wasn't really disappointing to me. The plot seems very generic, but at least it doesn't look as bad as Skate-Leading Stars from last season.

I believe this got made because of the upcoming Olympics, in fact there are many sports anime than usual in 2020-2021. Kinda make me wish Japan to hold Olympics every year LOL.

Talking about this anime, this is high quality indeed, not just fanservice, but the production as well. Many people will reminded of previous season Skate Leading Stars where a group of male play in a performance-art sport that is usually dominated by female athletes. But the beginning of this episode is exactly the same as "Dive!!" and the fluid flexible movement reminds me of "Taiso Samurai"

Now the most important part is characters, in which I'm glad to say that I'm fully satisfied by those boys. The captain, the green-hair yankee, and the big purple hair rival are currently my favs.

This is amazing! Bakuten wasn't on my plan to watch list before but now i'm eager for more episodes. Already liking the cast of characters, the animation, and the music (Yuki Hayashi!!). I just hope i don't jinx it since last season i was so hyped for 2.43 but ended up dropping it.

So boring beginning that I wanted to drop this after two minutes. Overall it wasn't bad.
I don't see any similarity to Skate-Leading Stars.

Good original sports anime are indeed rare

Will give it another episode, but honestly seems like a waste of time.

It was actually good !

I liked the characters, movements(even though CGI was used-it was still good), the art and the music. Story is nothing new or extraordinary, but still well-executed.

It definitely has the potential to be 'the sports show' of the season.

Looking forward to the next eps already. ^^

(I hope they don't mess up though. Last season, except SK8, the other sports shows were kinda disappointing..:/)

went in with pretty low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised that I liked it quite a bit!

I do love watching gymnastics, didn't know Rhythm gymnastics was an actual sport. the mc is really cute, and seems to have a likable personality. The rest of the cast fit into different tropes, but that's to be expected with most sports anime.

Last season had so many lousy sports anime, with Wave!!, Skate Leading Stars, and 2.43(although that one was semi-decent). Yeah SK8 Infinity was pretty good, but most new sports anime(not including sequels to long running sports anime like Haikyu!) these days are so mediocre. So I'm hoping this will be a good one.

Can't say much about the story yet but it feels really similar to other sports anime. I didn't like the performance (too much cg) but him trying to do a backflip looked good.

It feels way too formulaic for a lot of sports anime out there that are niche in the genre when it comes to the specific sport itself since men's gymnastics is pretty out there compared to a lot of the regular sports that you see in anime nowadays but then again, I'm spoiled with anime like Major or Hajime no Ippo that seem far more for my taste with the whole career approach rather than the high school team specific approach. At least gymnastics does seem like it does have potential as a sport to be something interesting to watch, hopefully the routines between all the teams would be different from each other yet alluring and exciting to watch at the same time. Character dynamics are textbook stuff like what you'd get from Free or Tsurune or most other sports anime like this, which seems boring to me, but hopefully over time that improves too.

At times, the 3d was not blended well at all, and sometimes they did it really well. I liked how they played to the strengths of 3d cg by having dynamic camera movements, and the 2d stuff looks really solid too. Overall, looking forward to seeing where this is going

Damn the choreography and rotoscoping were beautiful. It was a joy to watch every gymnastics scene. I can't say I'm enamored by any of the characters yet. If it keeps up this level of quality it'll be worth watching. I'm expecting it will be more gay-bait like Sk8 Infinity.

Though I liked the fact that this is featuring men’s gymnastic which isn’t very common by stereotypes, the plot and the story line didn’t seem like anything new. It felt like it was going with the classic sports anime tropes and characters. But what amazed me was the visuals like everyone said. The moves, especially in the dance sequance, was really smooth. I truly appreciate the animation. Considering the storyline they are going with, I say this might take a yuri on ice turn. We have the excited cute newbie and the cool guy who already mastered the sport and fascinated the protagonist.

I started this anime with high hopes, I’m really hoping this story will take an unpredictable turn. I say 5/5 for the visuals but 3.5/5 for the story in the first episode (considering the first episodes ahould show how beautiful the next episodes will be). Don’t let us down Bakuten!!

I actually quite enjoyed this first episode. The cgi put me off initially in the routine but it would be a lot to animate it normally. P-lus I think they got the moves down quite well for proper gymnastics.

Looks like it will be fun.

Is pretty damn good looking anime the animation is really good. Is so satisfying to watch that their movements and camera movements is so did well.

But still as for sports anime plots is pretty common that one of the mc join to a not popular sports club and make the whole team reach the top, is pretty same but let's see what's happened next

I initially wanted to watch this because the MC's voice actor is one I like (he voiced Tatara from welcome to the ballroom). Upon watching the episode, I also learned that the OP is by centimillimental (the group that helped a lot with given), and the MC reminds me a lot of Eiji from banana fish. That plus the fact that I love sports anime is enough to make me excited for the next episode. While the CGI (or whatever it was) during the performance looked kinda weird to me, I'm willing to let it slide because I have high hopes for this show. Please don't turn out to be a disappointment like last season's sports animes were. See y'all next week!!

First we had Skate-Leading Stars last season, and now this?
While sports anime like Diamond no Ace is good, Bakuten
and SLS has the same feeling like Free, Cheer Danshi and Dive.
Does anyone else think the same?

I'm looking forward to it. ^^

It would be nice if Cheer Danshi and Dive gets a second season...

I was overly hyped for this and it definitely delivered. I have such a weak spot for corny sports anime lol, and man! Do they sure love their bird references! I am a strong anti-3D CGI traditionalist, but I will say the CGI looks good and was well integrated into the closeup scenes. I'd have to watch again a bit closer but I think in some of the choreography scenes, their arms were at slightly different positions which would be a nice touch, factoring in a little variation in performance makes it seem more lifelike. The character designs are nice if not a little generic, and I'm excited to see where the show goes from here.

Straightforward story, the soundtrack is great. If anything I might just watch it for the soundtrack cause you know Yuki Hayashi.

My only worry is can they make something out of it in just one cour. (I assume it's one cour)

Cant stop smiling for the entire episode. Futuba is so cute and pure and just wants to do gymnastic. And also the whole team is great too.

Watari is best boy, love how energetic and at times over the top he is, when he apologized after Misato pointed out his mistakes, lol.

Looking forward to see how they make it to the Inter-high.

Still think Hayashi's music is way over used, and so nothing felt original, song felt like it could have been ripped right out of Gundam Build Fighters or My Hero Academia ost so it felt distracting.

Also how he's doing four/five anime this season is a bit much (Shaman King, Bakuten/Backflip, My Hero Academia, Dragon Quest Dai)

While somewhat generic overall (which anime isn't these days?), the first episode was still fun. Nice intro of the characters, actually showing their personalities instead of just talking about it. CGI's gonna have to be very on point for this particular sport though, because if it's not detailed and fluid enough, it'll be a pain to watch. Let's hope they didn't blow all the budget on this episode...

The protagonist is so cuuute! I wanna adopt him!

As an ex animation student, the animation in this anime made me so happy. The crowd, I can't tell if they were CG, but they looked so alive. Everyone were doing their own thing, and not just walking with different poses.

The performance was also beautiful. I can't tell if they used CG or not. The movements were so smooth that I feel they may have used CG, but at the same time, it didn't stand out unnaturally the way CG tends to.

The story and characters don't seem to be anything special just yet, but the way everything was directed makes me want to trust this anime. I hope this doesn't disappoint me.

I actually really liked it. There was nothing particularly unique in this first episode. But if they keep exploring the theme of putting yourself out there and develop the cast properly, I can't complain. Maybe that's too much to ask for. But honestly, I'd be okay with watching this regardless. The characters actually seem interesting. The team has a lot of chemistry, and their interactions were fun. Plus, I like the art style and animation. The cg threw me off a bit, but it's not that bad for once.

Another sports anime this season. Gonna be honest, wasn't going to start this show for some reason, but this was a really good start. I'm honestly in love with some of these characters. Getting a lot of Haikyuu vibes from this especially the OST, Yuki Hayashi, the GOAT is doing his second anime this season as far as I know, he's killing it with this one as well. I can't wait for more of this show.

one thing I'm not so sure about tho is the CG, O thought I would hate it more like the last season's Wave!!! but it wasn't half bad, at least it didn't ruin the experience that much and there wasn't a lot of it but still, it's not really my cup of tea

Damn, that was actually pretty damn good. I really liked it, visuals were beautiful. I think this is one of my favorite premieres this season so far. I liked Taisou Zamurai 2 seasons ago, though this is a bit different from it, it's both about gymnastics. And I can recognize that kind of soundtrack from anywhere, that's definitely Yuki Hayashi.

I think they blended the 3D and 2D very well in the performance, it was pretty good. And the VA's in this show is fucking stacked. Looking forward to the next episode.

I’m living for the voice cast. LIVING

And if you really had to compare it to skate leading stars (why tho.....? Lol) this first episode alone has already won me over. It’s miles better. I couldn’t even bring myself to finish the former which was so monotonous & uninspired. The art & sound direction & cinematography alone were so immersive!!!! Definitely a promising one for me. And the character personalities were all introduced well without them being thrown in your face. Really appreciate subtleties.

AND THAT OP ♡____♡ Centimillimental!!!!!♡

Also realised that the director is also the director of one of my favourite anime, Fune wo Amu. I have high hopes for this now!

but i’ll probably remember over and over again
