Question: Why so popular, when ranked so low?

So this manga's anime is coming up, it came to my attention when I was doing my usual routine of fleshing out my next seasonal anime in livechart.me, and I'm not sure this anime will make it... But the Ranking/popularity ratio is abnormal;

So why is this so popular? Do you think it will be worth to watch/adapt something worth watching? I do realize it is a somewhat complex question

Thats because ratings here can sometimes be a joke. How do shows that haven't aired yet have reviews? Why are there reviews and ratings for this manga that hasn't concluded? That's why I'll read a review or 2, see if the plot aligns with what I might like and go from there.

I think this manga will be great adapted into the show. Horimiya and Uzaki chan turn-out and are turning out great.

It is getting an anime adaptation and manga readers(who like it ofc) hyped it up and more people started reading it. Score is pretty decent, especially for what that manga is in general.

It pretty simple . People read like the first 5 chap and thought that it gonna stay like that for the whole duration of the manga and leave a low score because of it.

If you compare with same popularity anime , 7.78 is low yes.

Also after watching the PV I decided to not even take a look. This looks dreadful. Never have I hated every character so much

why it's so popular is beyond me. memes maybe?

I don't know. Maybe it's a case of many people enjoying the manga but decidedly not overrating it. I absolutely love the manga and read it every week, but it's story and character development take a backseat to RomCom SoL teasing routine that, while I still find great regardless, I wouldn't really rate this manga over an 8 for, which seems to be the general consensus since, if you check the statistics, is what most people end up rating the show.

Dunno about you guys but I consider 7.72 as high-average. 7.00-7.99 in general is average/decent. Though honestly in my opinion, the reason to why it's so popular is that the number of SoL and RomCom manga readers is massive. And within those fandom lies the casuals who've read almost every series of the genre, waiting for one of their beloved titles to get animated. Literally the people who've read komi-san are the same as those who've read nagatoro, and we all know how popular komi-san is. Thus, the reason why you see a lot of hype coming from every socmed platforms.

If at first you don't succeed, try two more times so that your failure is statistically significant.

7.72 is not low....it's actually close to 8.
It got targeted to it's targeted audience and it got popular and non tagrget audience also decided to check it out and they didn't like it.That's how it works.

Very easy answer. Because it's popular doesn't mean it's good. Both is different thing.

For example, lower rating manga like Bleach, Naruto or Fairy Tail is more popular and was sold better than higher rated manga like Oyasumi Punpun or Vinland Saga.

There seems to be a huge negative audience for the series. Dunno if it's virtue signalling thing or whatever, but I found that people's opinions on this manga seem very disjointed from reality. For example, some of the top reviews describe it almost as a manga about torture and horrible torment, and none of these things are even in it. I heard from a friend that it's based on a web comic which was much more brutal and offensive so maybe people are just going off of that without even reading the manga itself. I was surprised how light-hearted I found it and honestly the little bit of too much bullying happens in the first chapters and cools down a lot very quickly.

Also, yeah. 7+ is not low. It's the toxic mentality of considering anything below 9 as bad. 10 is masterpiece, 1 is horrible, 5 is average. Anything between 5 and 10 is good, it's just different degrees of good.

Can look at it a few ways:

The first few chapters are pretty hard to get thought and it is pretty easy to just quit the manga early. Both characters are pretty flawed and it takes several chapters before they start improving as human beings. The improvements are subtle which means easy to miss (or ignore). The story dose not really have structure and progress does not really happen until later. All of these issues are addressed and the series really turns into something great. Throw in a lot of sexual jokes and crude humor for a bit more hate.
