 The Light Novel Expo event announced a television anime adaptation of Shinji Cobkubo's Sabikui Bisco light novel on Saturday. Hakuhodo DY Music & Pictures simultaneously opened an official website, revealing the cast, production staff, a teaser promo, and teaser visual (pictured).Synopsis A plague-like wind blows across the arid, sandy expanse of a post-apocalyptic Japan. As it sweeps over the living and nonliving alike, rust is all that remains in its wake. The cause of the catastrophic state of the world is believed to be mushroom spores. Bisco Akaboshi, known as the "Man-Eating Mushroom," is a wanted criminal archer whose arrows instantly grow mushrooms wherever they land. However, he is in truth a "Mushroom Protector," a person who spreads fungi in order to enrich the land and return it to its previous state. Alongside the crab Akutagawa and young doctor Milo Nekoyanagi, Bisco ventures through the wastelands of Japan searching for the legendary "Sabikui"—a panacean mushroom said to devour all forms of rust. Kadokawa published the sixth volume last June, with the seventh volume scheduled for release on March 10. Sabikui Bisco has a cumulative 200,000 copies of its volumes in print. Yuusuke Takahashi launched a manga adaptation in Manga UP! web magazine in April 2019. Square Enix will ship the third and fourth volume on March 10. | hell yeah, Sabikui Bisco. I was hoping for this one. That novel has an amazing post apocalyptic world full of super weird abilities, flora and fauna. If the animation team properly renders it, this should be fun to watch. Some of the creatures and abilities in there are fire, I'm telling you. Also, it's pretty rare to get a post apo anime, so even more welcome as an adaptation. Don't expect amazing story telling or amazing characters though. It's to be watched for a very fun and strange ride, and on these points, as long as it respects the feel of the novel (seems like it with the trailer) it should fully delivers. Also pre-emptively nominating Akutagawa best crab of the decade. |

| I remember seeing the LNs in the rankings and I found the LN volume cover art to be interesting. After seeing that PV, I can definitely say that this series has a very appealing art style. And if that PV is anything to go by, it seems like the anime has some amazing animation. Not only that, but the storyboarding in that PV was ridiculously good! It really does feel like the PV is a premade one and these cuts may not be in the actual show, but hopefully it's like Mushoku Tensei, where the actual show matched the quality seen in the premade PV. |
