The majority anime uses a specific art style that while has variety it's very common and easily associated with anime

While western cartoons seem to have a wider variety with each style having their own unique flavor that makes the different from the rest.

Would you like it if there are more anime that do not follow the typical anime art style?

not really, anime designs naturally evolve over time anyways so just wait a couple decades if you want a change.

I mean, that image is pretty biased imo. Cartoons include characters from very different years, studios, plus not all of them are human? But anyway, they all have their own style. Anime already has a lot of variety but I think it'd be nice to see more styles? Not necesarily cartoony or "western" but different.. ?

Lol @ the picks for anime

The creator of that image didn't even try to make it a fair comparison or he's genuinely clueless

Pretty sure the only people that would complain about anime having one artstyle are people who don't watch anime. Are Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan not anime because they don't look like it? I know they are old, but so are some of the examples in the image.

By far it is more visually appealing, and has plenty of variety of its own. I cannot think of any western cartoon that is really a looker. The only ones that come to mind are ones that are influenced heavily by anime already.

There is just as much variation in style in the left half of that image as the right. Where's your point?
Well I for one already loved Lain.

Western animation has embraced deformity, which is not quite the same as diversity:

Within the limits of a more or less realistic (though highly stylized) representation of the human figure, anime is varied enough for me, and off the top of my head I can think of at least 20 styles that look nothing like each other. It doesn't need to come up with a totally new shape every time in order to be original, which is apparently a must for many western designers. Nothing wrong with that in its way of course, but it has to be recognized for what it is - a quirk of western animation.

Imagine using an image which compares a bunch of 2000-2010 anime TV shows to a bunch of 1960-2010 cartoons including movies and what seems to be comics covers.

There's a greater consistency to Japanese art styles because the Japanese are just better at it, and there are certain things which work in given contexts, so they keep doing those things, while most Western animated art just does whatever out of cluelessness. My theory is that having a language which is based on abstracted pictograms is great training for the right kind of mindset.

What's up with this forum lately with people wanting anime to have Western stuff? It's fine the way it is, anime's unique animation is what I like about it, I don't like deformed abominations, thanks.

Depends on the style; one of the reasons I prefer anime is because of its art style, or more accurately, its family of art styles. To be fair the art style in anime isn't always my cup of tea either. But on average I prefer anime.

All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper. However, for those who refuse our offer and cling to their western animation ways… For you, there will be great wrath.

A distinctive art style stands out from the norm because there's a norm, if every series has it's own style, that wouldn't be the case.

Sure, there would be more variety but as cartoons from the late 10s shown, eventually the art styles begin to look too similar to one another anyways.

As long as the art style fits the type of story and setting, I don't mind, and I only complain when the character designs are shit to me in this regard (Akame ga Kill!, Goblin Slayer), otherwise I see them as simple, derivative and forgettable but not straight up bad.

Also, there are adult oriented/more serious cartoons with their own distinctive art style from different eras that stand out from the rest, without needing deformity or weird shapes, as there are anime with their own look and setting, so the comparison made by the image could have been far better.

what would be the point of watching anime if i looked exactly like western cartoons?
I enjoy the anime art style simply because it's just a lot more appealing. Also there is already plenty of variety. For example, Panty & Stocking, Aku no Hana, Attack On Titan, Demon Slayer, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Crayon Shin-chan, Monogatari series, Dragon Ball, Eizouken, Tatami Galaxy, Kemonozume, Ping Pong The Animation, Soul Eater, Hanako-kun, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Mob Psycho 100, and so many more anime with distinct art styles.
Another thing I want to point out is that there are plenty of western cartoons that have the same or similar art style. Dexter's Laboratory and Powerpuff Girls for example. Many western cartoons are starting to look the same anyways.
Also I can't fap to something in let's say Family Guy's art style for example. I just can't. But I sure as hell can fap to something in the standard anime art styles (examples: Clannad, SAO, etc.).

Bad comparsion, cartoons on the image range from 1930 (Tin Tin, Betty Boop) to today and anime on the left are from 2000s and early 2010s.

The image should have anime with weirder designs and more time periods and the cartoon one should maybe put the edgier ones on the display (or even animesque designs for cartoons)

To answer the question, I tend to prefer designs that stay away from the norm, I don't even mind them looking like cartoons (not always), but I'm not really sure that cartoon designs are more different.

Anime do have different art styles. Ever wonder why people say they watch a show for the art style?

Tell me, do any of these look similar to you?

And most of the characters that I mentioned don't even have that unique of an art style lol. They're all quite common styles but some people only watch what they like then complain about anime not having enough variety. Say Doraemon and Shinchan for example, there are plenty shows with similar art. Ninja Hattori-kun, Chibi maruko-chan, Atashinchi, Osomatsu-san, Nintama Rantarou etc. Add 20 panels of those anime on the list up there and you'd notice anime would have the "unique flavors" of cartoons

I don't really care about uniqueness or the origine of the animation. If it looks bad, then I'll say this looks bad without hesitation regardless if it's from Japan or the West. That being said, most western cartoons don't look good. Anime has nothing to envy from the west.

Talk about lazy. They took 3 panel space for Powerpuff Girls instead of having an additional 2 more separate cartoons. They missed out on the GOAT South Park. Also duplicates of characters from the same show
