| One Piece characters got one of the most depressing and dark backstories you'll ever see in anime/manga in my opinion. From genocide, to slavery, to cannibalism and much more fucked up things. It's rough. To name specific characters that have sad and dark backstories: Nico Robin, Brook, Nami, Trafalgar Law, Sanji. |

| I don't remember her name, but the main girl from Mahou Shoujo Site takes the no.1 spot for me man. Bullied into submission, betrayed by people she thought she could trust, put into a death game a la Mirai Nikki out of pure happenstance, abused by her brother who she can't speak up about, and so much more that's fucked up about her daily life. |

| Gaara and Chopper are the only flashbacks so far that made me tear up a lot. Outside of them, technically Guts have a very bad life in general, not only his backstory. Poor dude´s like 23 and is already dying physically and mentally. |
