Faithfulness to the Manga

I just finished the anime and Was blown away by how good the story is. the manga it's based on Actually has a sequel called Birdy the Mighty Evolution. My question is: How Faithfull is the anime adaptation to the manga?

i would really like to be able to pickup where the anime left off.

the anime took it's own path from the very beginning as far as I know
