A solid final chapter for an amazing manga. I'm definitely going to really miss this series.

Seeing Izumi and Tanaka going to live together makes me want to ship these two. I love how surprised Tanaka was when he realised how close their ages are.

Satou isn't actually dead as everyone expected but I don't expect him escaping anytime soon.

Kei saying he was still planning on becoming a doctor as if it was the most obvious thing in the world was a very Kei moment.

I liked some parts of it. Truck-sun was a very nice touch, heh. And I really glad Satou is still alive... "kinda". But the whole thing feels a little rushed or even un-finished. Like author just got tired of this conflict and decided to end it there. Of course, I am not saying it was a bad ending (you know, after reading stuff like DomeKano...) but it could been much, much better imo.

Strong 7,5 from me. It was a nice journey.

The Sato ending felt really sequel inducing.
Solid end, but it lost a bit of steam in the last 15 chapters or so. 8/10.

Sato is going into the books as one of the craziest and efficient mfer.

the ending was so fitting for the manga, everything wrapped up and there are no loose ends. truly my favourite series ever because of the plot, well thought out characters and art. not a single chapter have i been disappointed!! even tosaki's death doesn't make me as sad anymore because they recognised how much he did for everyone but i still miss him haha.
10/10 for me, my favourite manga

Lol @ truck-kun

With so many eventless chapters towards the end it was hard to stay interested in this series, but the conclusion was pretty nice despite that. It still could've been better imo, considering that this was a manga I was once very hyped about. If they used the momentum of when the story was at it's peak of excitement the ending would've been more impactful.

Still get's a 7/10 for it's peak moments. Sato and Nagai were cool characters as well.

8/10 from me. Usually not reading manga. But the anime got me into this. I still liked the anime and the original ending. (Would have loved to see more though.) Manga had some nice stuff later after the things the anime had adapted.

In the end I got a bit bored though. Can't go higher than 8.

It is still open to sequels though. (Sometimes manga get another sequel manga with a different name.) With Sato not really dead.

Sato and the smoking doc were my favorite chars.

Ended the same way everything began, a truck accident by one of the OG Truck-kun itself.

Overall solid seinen ngl strong 7/10 to perhaps 8 after a reread, Sato will definitely be remembered as one of the best antagonist in manga history with the mad shit he has done and how fucking unconventional he was.

As for Nagai, you can slack off now boy, you deserved it.

It was a nice ending but it didn't feel satisfying in my opinion.
It almost felt like I skipped a chapter or 2 before this one, but it was still pretty alright.
I'd say this is a 7/10, closer to an 8 than a 6

I liked it. I did however feel like the last ~20 chapters had a weird pacing.
At first it felt like it was dragging along and then it felt somewhat rushed.
But all in all I don't have any open questions and all was wrapped up good enough.

Overall a solid 7/10. Probably gonna re-read it at some point.

this was a solid manga from start to end, loved kei and how he remained the same throughout the series. btw when he was hiding in that village, did he put some demi humans in barrels? are they still there?..

anyway, 7.5/10

This was a fun manga from start to finish. It did have some boring scenes, but no boring chapters that I can think of.

Kaito lives!! Yayy! So that means the boy from the prologue is alive too. Awesome!

A lot of times, I paused to just appreciate the art. Like, it's so beautiful!!

The end was oddly funny. I guess Truck-kun isn't powerful enough to isekai an Ajin.

Being an Ajin seems like an allegory for being queer. They are humans just like everyone. People know they exist, but don't assume they'll ever see them. One does something bad, and every one is blamed. They are not necessarily born to non Ajin parents. A lot of Ajins try to hurt other Ajins. And, there are probably more stuff I missed.

I hope the scene with Sato wasn't a setup for a sequel, but just a scene letting us know that some problems never truly end.

I kind of wanted Nagai and Kai to meet, but I also knew the story wouldn't work if they met this chapter.

Yeah I agree. I think the ending was kind of bullshit and forced. I don't think Sato was the kind of person who would do something as stupid as waiting for Nagai to charge him anyway.

Also, I don't get how Sato was going to escape the country on a helicopter. Is it really that hard to find/track an object as big as a helicopter?

The first half of the story was great but Sato getting away with his rambo shenanigans and consistently being one step ahead throughout the whole story just got old. Then he gets taken out in the lamest way possible lol.

It also seemed like some characters and plot points were forgotten or just not fleshed out enough such as Shinya, who caused "The Shinya Nakamura Incident." What even happened to him? He would've been a great way to explore the whole "are you still you?" if your decapitated head's too far and your body regenerates a new one. Instead it got put aside after Sato pulled the wood chipper teleportation move and could care less about the consequences.

I feel the manga just got too focused on action and ended up slacking on the horror/mystery. Even the action itself was lackluster regarding the supernatural element since the bulk of it was mostly gunplay, explosives and tranquilizers. You have these immortal shadow beings/stands at your disposal and yet they're overshadowed by traditional weapons and Sato's military/guerrilla tactics. What a miss.

I was a bit lost on how to talk about this kind of disappointing ending, but this fits perfectly with what I thought about it, well in my case I would have liked more if the manga ended earlier, it got lost for a while (a bit similar to the case with Gakkou Gurashi)

Finally got around to finishing this. Feels like it lost its sense of direction towards the end, which makes sense as the author points out that from the onset this was a story that wasn't thought out too far in advance and the original author leaving would also cause the story to be completely different, but overall it was a fun read.

Haha, that was nice. Guess Truck-kun lost his touch from all the isekais.

I didn't expect Izumi and Tanaka to hit it off like that at the end. It was a good final chapter. I loved the anime, especially the 1st season which is definitely the best part in all of these Ajin media stuff. I remember the 2nd season losing its momentum plus the loose-end at the end. Same thing happens in the manga, it dragged a little in the final fight and was hoping for more Kei's ghost screentime but oh well. The one thing I was afraid of is the ending, and thankfully, they closed it up nicely. I always wanted to see this through to the end, and now I'm satisfied I finally did.

A fun read. More of an action manga than anything else though and the shadow monsters didn’t really even play much of a role in the manga towards the end. Still, it was entertaining as hell.

@bryansao
(2 years late, but whatever ^_-;)

It has 86 chapters.
I even tried to correct/edit the chapter count, but MAL just ignored it :/
But you can easily find chapter 85-86 online and Wikipedia and the Ajin-wiki also list chapter 85-86 as part of volume 17.

Edit: Under "more info" it says
"86 chapers were released in Afternoon, which in the published volumes were recompiled for a total of 83 chapters."
Which still makes the chapter count a little nonsensical..

@Ceyliel I imagine that MAL made it 84 then because of Chapter 9.5 (it was that I think) which showed the first flood incident and iirc they usually go after official releases

I really thought the IBMs had a bigger role in the plot before reading this (looking at the volume covers), but in the end they weren’t the main focus… Definitely lost some of its steam towards the end.. The last fight/battle was a bit underwhelming (the anti-demi forces didn’t really live up to the buildup).

I think the best fight/battle was the one in that Forge building. Overall a good read.
