will the production quality be as good?

i haven't seen many of sunrise's anime but im wondering if they'll be able to do a good adaptation. the original movie had some absolutely beautiful animation, the colours and style and smoothness were all top-notch; the ost was amazing and fit the movie very well too. what do you guys think? will sunrise be able to match, or even surpass the original movie?

If it's a TV series then no it's not gonna have the quality of the old version. Even if it was a film, the 1988 has set the bar very high so I don't know if they'll attempt to match it. As for sunrise, they're a huge studio so the quality will depend on who they'll have working on it.

It's completely unrealistic to expect the same quality as the old movie regardless of the format they choose to go with. That said I would expect relatively high production quality no matter the format they go with this.

Knowing Banrise, they would probably like to make this into an OVA. Which would be the best for the production quality but downside would be a looong time for the series to get completed

Sunrise are the animators of cowboy bebop so my expectations are high.

Not really. Many of Sunrise staff members that worked on Cowboy Bebop went on to found Studio Bones, so Sunrise doesn't have the same animators as back then.

Well the format is exactly that though. Movies have a lot higher production values than TV anime across the industry. I mean there of course countless shows which probably look better than 100 movies but even still, a movie production gets a lot more effort put in than a tv show.

With that being said, Sunrise is a pretty great animation especially in recent years. So they’re not a bad choice to go with for adapting, potentially, the full story of Akira.

If it’s a tv series, absolutely not. If it’s a movie/movie series maybe but it’s going to be hard since Akira has remained one of the most well animated movies of all time since it’s release

agreed might be an OVA like Gundam Unicorn and Gundam The Origin that both have good visuals and animation too

I'm pretty sure it can't match the movie quality animation due to it being a TV series but I'm still hoping for the best lol

TV series will almost never be able to match the consistent production quality of a film like Akira. Really stop and think how many if any TV shows even today look as good as Akira did decades ago
