That's a gigantic reach, ufotable have most of their work done in-house, if anything they are A1-Pictures but with people that have a lot of passion about their work.

That was one of the most interesting premiere episodes I've seen in anime as it not only made me extremely curious but it also grabbed my attention the entire time as I was trying to figure out what in the hell was happening. It was engrossing though and I'm really captivated to find out more about what this show is about and piece the puzzle together more. I needed an anime like this to satisfy me cognitively, especially a mystery anime (although its presented as a slice of life by MAL here) and this oozes a ton of potential for me.

CloverWorks did well with the cinematography, the music and the visuals as a whole despite a couple weird CG moments, but the whole atmosphere of the show feels trippy and bizarre so in this case, I'll allow it.

Very fascinating episode overall. Best premiere of the season so far, and my favorite premiere since the Dorohedoro one I'd say last year.

Well, to be fair, the other Cloverworks show I'll be keeping up with this season, Horimiya, didn't impress me with its visuals as much as this one did.

probably because they are not part of the production committee of Horimiya so its not a priority to them unlike this Wonder Egg one but im just guessing here since i do not watch both shows

although the sakuga community is hyping Wonder Egg Priority for months now thats how i learned about it
Yeah, I figured as such, similar to how other studios like MAPPA with more than one show per season exhibit different levels of quality in each one due to employing different teams. Still, seeing this level of production in this one show was unexpected, at least for me.

The animation does look really good for the most part, but everything from the story and the characters had me every other minute saying "dat fuck? dat double fuck??" Yes, probably some intentional mystery elements here, but nothing I feel like really ties into anything important yet.

Slice of life usually is my thing, but I doubt this thing be actually your typical high school SOL stuff.

I know it's just an anime original with great looking animation, but man, for now, I'm simply not sold on anything theme-wise or character-wise here. It feels honestly a bit too conceited, imho. Guess it'll take time, though. At least sakuga will definitely keep my interest.

I read slice of life and was not very interested at first, only decided to watch because of the lack of information about the show, I got curious! I regret nothing, psychological/dementia can be really nice and this seems promising.

Not gonna gush over it since i still enjoyed Horimiya and Mushoku Tensei more so far but this looks like it could be amazing in the long run (or could fall apart horribly).

Animation is used so well for character movement.

Did not expect that. I really thought this was gonna be a regular slice of life with some drama here and there, but I was wrong. This is rather interesting and it has potential. Now I'm actually hooked, can't wait for the next episode.

@deg I can certainly understand the hype. I'm not a sakuga enthusiast specifically, but, from my knowledge in 'traditional' cinematography, the first episode at least was impeccable, specially in the character acting department.

Anyway, thanks for the info, good to know enthusiasts enjoyed it as well.

I’ll be honest here
I don’t know what is happening in episode 1
While watching it I just felt confuse

The only good thing about it is that the animation
Is gorgeous
But with the story
It doesn’t make sense

Idk if I’m gonna enjoy this anime

Ok, this was great. I didnt expect a normal SoL as there was someone in the staff working as a "action animation director" so i expected something more than normal, but not this out of the normal. The animation is incredible as expected with some great character designs. Like a lot of people i didnt understand almost nothing from the episode but i am still extremely interested in it all, i especially like the creppy vibe they are going for, rare to see good horror elements in anime this days. The characters are also pretty cute and fairly enjoyable. Very hyped for this.

CloverWorks really are stepping up their game this season. I'd a feeling they'd less into this project but color me surprised. Character designs and Soundtrack for the most part was pretty cool too.

Perfect in every possible way.

A mix of Madoka, Flip Flappers, Alice in Wonderland, and AnoHana; great direction, in medias res and non-chronological storytelling that makes you think, AWESOME, movie-like visuals.

AOTS without any doubts so far if creators will keep this level of quality.

I must say, WEP will be Anime of the Year for sure.
It was THE BEST first episode I've ever saw in few years.
If Cloverworks keeps this quality till the end, then it would be in Anime of the Decade list

These main theme of bullying, (maybe) outing and other social issues by script writer Nojima Shinji are bold, uncommon, unique and adventurous selection for anime these days....(maybe cause he is originally a writer for TV shows, not anime shows)

and this amazing script presented by Cloverworks' finest supernatural, creepy, fantasy filled art, sound, voice acting e.t.c.
Just amazing, astonishing, thrilled when the ep1 ended.

I'm soooooooooo hyped for this anime. Must watch show

From what I can infer is that, its starts of with her talking to the bug she buried which leads her to getting the egg, but then she is suddenly teleported*(this is her dream/trauma) to her school where she is bullied and she is like the hard boiled egg not to crack under the pressure. She cracks the egg she got and there a friend hatches but that friend represents her best friend who killed herself irl which is why we see them being chased by those Demons which are basically the bullies and the MC stops cuz she can no longer carry on since its hurting both herself and her friend, so she can't save her friend irl, but the one in this dream world lives on and tells her to make more friends irl, which pushes the plot, if she wants to rescue her friend who died, then she has to save all these other eggs which is her priority.

The art and animation is so good that it felt like a movie.

The mc is adorable... And she was bullied with that adorable face? To hell with those bullies, man.

Fairly interesting premise. I'm guessing her friend that died wouldn't come back and that the "final boss" would be herself? Since it seems to be inferred that she was also someone who averted her eyes away from the bullying of her best friend, which would present some kind of final choice between killing her "final boss" self in that world or letting the egg character for that time get killed to save herself.

This is all just my own conjecture obviously but it would still be interesting to see how it all plays out.

That was weirdly unsettling but it makes sense if you use your brain really well.

So from what I'm getting...Ai Ooto is pretty much bullied in school, turning her into an antisocialist. But then someone actually befriended her and she was about to be happy for once...and then that someone OOFed herself by falling down (like Ruru-chan)...oops. Now she's pretty much gone hikikomori mode and is just stuck at her bed. But in a dream, a mysterious voice led her to a random egg. Anime things happened and she broke the egg when a toilet paper spoke to her. And damn creepy and fucked up things happened along the way. So in order to save her "best friend", she has to save other people from dangerous situations in order to get enough points to save her "best friend". Seems pretty cool and since it's an original anime, this has potential to do anything it wants, of course as long as it's good.

I love the art choice and the beautiful animation across the board. The creepy visuals from those 3d dangling creatures to girls that have censors in their eyes, like jeez CloverWorks you're doing mad shit here huh. I like where this is going although I question the likeliness of this turning to become a shitshow, I hope that is not the case.

Btw Wonder Egg Priority from the moment it got announced was actually full of mysteries. Yes it was announced but throughout the months before this premiere, in MAL there's literally no information about it. With the only exception being the promotional art. And even though the synopsis and PV gave us the gist, it doesn't give us the core idea of the show. So I love that CloverWorks and the W.E.P. production team is taking the risk to actually make this show mysterious and reclusive in nature. I felt like WEP almost pulled a Talentless Nana plot twist, where you're expecting one thing but actually got an unexpected treat.

I think Wonder Egg Priority is more into thriller (yea with a bit of horror) from what I've watched. It confuses people to think it as an Sol show since the visuals looks clean and the art has some quality SoL-type style.

Holy shit I didn't expect for this show to have blood! It's one of the most unique first episodes I've watched in a long time. The animation and art are absolutely stunning as well. So what've gathered is that the eggs are people who committed suicide and they are given to people who lost someone because of suicide as well. So to bring your lost one to life back again, you have to save other eggs in the dream world. It seems that the injuries translate to real life, so that's something.

What happened to sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me? Being "bullied" is part of growing up. Shows you the world is a cruel and unfair place and you have to grow strong to survive. Well at least mentally. So basically this show is about some souls tormented in hell for committed suicide and a demon that tries to get another soul by using them, right?

I can definitely say that this will be one of the animes of the year for sure and yes I'm saying this after only 1 episode .

This first episode had literally so many strange yet thrilling events and had a great opening to it . The faint memories of our MC in her school life dived a bit into her personality and showed us that in reality she didn't want to betray her first ever made friend .

I have somewhat confused thoughts about what the purpose of the creatures who got her the " Wonder Egg " and if they're really telling the truth about bringing her friend back to life but we'll have to wait and see .

Overall great thrilling episode with a weird creepy feeling to it which makes it even better and an unexpected gem of the season , hope it really does become an unforgettable gem of this year .

OH MY FUCKING GOD!!! THAT WAS MORE AMAZING THAN I EXPECTED!!!

Let's clarify that I am a sucker for metaphors, allegories, and directing that prioritizes showing rather than telling. And this episode just totally delivered in every one of those things. I already can tell not everyone will like this anime, precisely because it is not easy to digest (Some might say it's completely random). And while a part of me would like an anime just based on the real aspects of this premiere, I feel all of the fantasy elements introduced were put there for a purpose.

I especially liked the fact that the monsters in the dream(?) world wouldn't chase Ai, and that Saijo kind of reminded Ai to her friend in the real world that committed suicide, Koito. That gives me the sensation Koito got bullied (maybe because she hang out with Ai?) to the point of suicide, and Ai just decided to look the other way. Of course, that's just my interpretation, and I feel an anime like this could go in any direction. But that was already a super deep message for a pilot to have.

Apart from the story, the execution is COMPLETE FIRE!!! The director has only done a couple of shorts and last year's 22/7. That anime didn't grab me because of the story, but the direction, as in the shorts, was completely stunning, and I feel like here he's finally coming out of his shell (hehe) and showing all of his strength as a director with a story that can match his talents. I LOVED the non-linear structure of the episode. It actually reminded me of Paprika, and, as I said, it prioritizes showing rather than telling, so you have to connect the dots in a lot of things, which is a breath of fresh air if we're talking about seasonal anime.
And not only the direction and the music is Movie-level, but the animation is also amazingly fluid. I don't think every episode will be like this, but I just hope it stays consistent.

I have a feeling that, If they stick the landing in this story, this might become a favorite of mine. If anything, you owe it to yourself to just check out this one episode.
