Initially slated for an April 2021 premiere, the official website for the television anime adaptation of CLAMP's Tokyo Babylon manga announced on Thursday that the anime's broadcast is postponed until further notice.

The staff issued an apology earlier this month due to referencing costume designs from other creators without permission for two characters in the series. The team has removed the character designs from the anime's official website, promising to take extra measures to avoid further issues of plagiarism in the future.

The anime adapting CLAMP's shoujo fantasy manga was originally announced in October. The characters in question were revealed on November 19, with the staff receiving warnings of potential plagiarism the following day regarding Hokuto and Subaru Sumeragi's costume designs. It's believed that the Emperor Hokuto "Black jacket and pink dress" costume references a picture taken by K-pop Idol Yeri from the band Red Velvet, with the Emperor style "Onmyoji" costume referencing a Volks moon cloth doll.

Susumu Kudou (Magic Kaito 1412), Shingo Suzuki (K) are helming the anime at GoHands. Jun Kumagai (Hamatora The Animation) is handling the series composition, with Makoto Furuta (Seitokai Yakuindomo) designing the characters. Noriyuki Asakura (Sidonia no Kishi) is composing the music at King Records.

What I don't understand is why didn't they just use clothes from the manga? Why would they feel the need to copy some clothes out there? Plus it's a CLAMP manga, everybody changes their clothes like multiple times per chapter each chapter.

Because for whatever reason they moved the timeline up to present day and manga clothes would have been out of fashion.

Is there any kind of supervisor at GoHands? How could they let it slip through?

Hah, that's what happens when you don't want to spend too much on CLAMP designs.

It's the studio behind Hand Shakers. Go figure.

What's wrong with the original clothes that they thought it was necessary to "reference" some other artist's designs? The manga characters have so many outfits throughout the story! Plus, if they want to modernise the designs, they can just ask CLAMP to do it!

They believe it's to retro (AKA: old) for younglings to associate with it.

GoHands did Handshakers.

They are clearly both lazy and not very competent.

I just looked up Handshakers. Now, I am super worried about Tokyo Babylon.

Great. One of the things I've been looking forward to forever.

X manga = hiatus until further notice
New Tokyo Babylon anime = same fate

Good job GoHands. Not sure if this delay is because now they have crap to deal with for GoHands, punishing GoHands, or punishing us for their mess up. Either way this is pretty annoying. They should have gotten a different studio to do the anime in the first place. I'm already not pleased with the style, but it especially doesn't suit Seishirou.

GoHands, as if you've never messed up once, your track record goes down by a mile again.

@FuMomo-kun I wholeheartedly agree LOLZ, just ask CLAMP to modernize the character designs. That's an easy and done deal. Not sure why GoHands really went topsy-turvy on other designs...
