| I think 1991 is a good contender but I'm unfortunately lacking experience with pre 2000s anime so it's far from certain. It's definitly not 2020 though, 2020 actually has a fair amound of decent stuff, not a great year but it wasn't shit or anything. |
| I measure how good or bad years are according to original anime and not sequels or continuations. Given this, since I can't think of any original anime premiered in 2015 I can safely call myself a fan of, that's my pick. |

| I have at least 10 or more rated sample size starting from 1985 for each of the years to current. Using that, I have 2001 as the worst year (both weighted average and average seem to nearly agree) and 1991 and 1994 as the followers. |

| According to anime+ I've given lowest score in average to year 2007 so I'll give that as an answer. Many say 2020 hasn't been too good, but I haven't seen enough anime from 2020 to say anything because I've been mostly catching up with older anime this year. |

There are also Roujin Z, Otaku no video and City Hunter. So it wasn't that good for TV, but had two S-tier movies and several decent OVA. Thus: 1990 was the worst year for me, beating runner ups 1991 and 1992. |

| Each year that we're currently in, so 2020 for now. 2019 was awful when I was seeing seasonals but 2020 has definitely been worse. I went from having a solid enough top 10 anime in 2017 and 2018 to having 5/10s and general disappointments other than Major 2nd season 2 in my top 10 area. Not optimistic for 2021 but hope that's better to break the cycle. |
