Do you find yourself getting irritated or downright frustrated when anime characters overreact to situations that aren't that "serious"?

Yes, every time I see that happen I start screaming and crying, throw my laptop out of the window, tear up my garments and swear off anime for life.

Not much, except for comedy-focused anime.

No, please stop making it seem like the flu is the worst thing in the world in high school anime.

No. That overused joke ended up making characters like Zenitsu and Bakugo, which are cancer.

Of course, pretty much every harem protagonist that blushes his face just like boiled skin or sliced tomato over heroine that just treats him something.

In comedy ? No. For me, a huge part of what makes an anime hilarious are the character reactions (or over reactions). The various ways in which a reaction is presented in comedy anime has never failed to make me laugh, although it does also depend on the joke. In every other context, overreactions are a pain in the ass.

if the situation isn't that weird/serious, then yea, the overreactions can come off as more annoying rather than funny (for the most part). One of the main reasons I pretty much disliked Nichijou

I feel as if overreaction comedy only works well when the actual situation itself calls for it, like Gintama or Gekkan Shoujo for instance

Sometimes, but not really for the majority of the cases.

No, I would consider those moments to be of the cringe variety

I don't mind them, but some characters stand out in the rain for two seconds and they have a cold that could possibly give them a heart attack, lose a limb, and kill them in a month.

Nope. Zenitsu made it clear that you are a shit character if you act like that.

If my favourite characters are the ones who are overreacting, then, yes, I'm a big fan of overreactions. Just take a look at Gintoki.

Yes I am.

The only 2 types of overreactions that are super cringe and ticks me off everytime I see it... are all the reactions concerning a boy and girl touching hands for the first time... That and the freaking indirect KISSU... OMG really? Even in 2020 with all the decadence going on, we're supposed to be shocked by that or something? GTFO /rant

Depends on how cute, funny, or interesting the reaction is, the quality of the set up, and if the timing of the over reaction was right.

This pretty much sums up my opinion. It depends on a wide variety of factors and, if one or more fail, it usually ends up being cringe.
Some people are talking about Zenitsu, but I honestly think his overreactions are part of his character. I mean, just look at the other characters' reactions when they see him overreacting for something stupid (e.g. asking a girl to marry him and her rejecting him in the process). And yes, it actually makes sense when he screams over fighting some semi-immortal demons who can chop your head off in less than a second without a single problem.

when done right it's hilarious

but it's a pet peeve of mine, like a really big one, when someone has the most EXTRA reaction ever and the character next to them is kinda just like, anyway

It depends on the show for me.. in some anime I find it's done really well and is actually funny. Other times it's annoying AF.

No. There are rare moments in which I thought it'd be used properly and effectively, but most of the time I find them annoying and unnecessary

Depends, but mostly no and I'm getting annoying if the reaction is not in the place. I like the exaggeration at asobi asobase or the sora VA at NGNL.

They can be a bit funny if they are used very infrequently in the show and with the right timing, but if they are used excessively they are annoying (as in most anime).

Plus, they ruin the atmosphere in what would otherwise be a serious scene. Such is the case as in most episodes of Kimetsu no Yaiba, or more recently, in Jujutsu Kaisen (which would be much better without the """"comedy"""").

Depends, if it's funny then I don't mind but if it's something like a tsundere getting jealous and hitting the MC because he looked at someone then it's quite annoying.
