THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Aye, more man service this episode with ass kicking in the ring. I even got some Jojo vibes from this episode especially when Sugimoto threw in all those punches.

What a fight episode, very entertaining if you ask me. I think this may also be the episode in the franchise where we had the main cast shirtless for the longest LOL

For all the homoerotism fanservice they could have just draw nipples to make it much easier (than drawing a penis) to deliver nudity realism. How can children anime like Digimon has nipples but Golden Kamuy doesn't? The holy grail is still penis though, a boner not a flaccid one.

Oh! and ED song could also be OP at the same time.

My heart went out to Sugimoto this episode. He feels such immense guilt over losing Asirpa. All that rage and anger building up since the failed prison break. He finally just snapped losing control over those built up feelings. The stenka was a food outlet for Sugimoto to let it all out. I'm glad that Gansoku could help Sugimoto in that way, that he could see through that rage. Sugimoto while he rampaged was crazy. He started punching everyone! Throwing illegal kicks! Wailing on anything in sight. Poetic he picked up a hammer and sickle while at the stenka since those tools are the symbols on the Russian flag.

The kids this episode taking matters into their own hands were great. Saving the dog and Cikapsai taking down the wolverine. Koito the whole episode asking if everything Sugimoto did was part of his plan made me laugh. Of course by the end Sugimoto himself forgot the plan he mentioned at the start. Them all running into the banya was the most hilarious thing! Oh my god when Gansoku starting hitting them with the birch wood and asking the guys to all hit him too. I about died. Love the comedy in this show its so weird but so funny. Surprised when they were actually standing on ice and fell in. That sure snapped Sugimoto out of it.

Glad they reached an agreement to just copy his tattoos. Seeing Asirpa at the end made me so happy. She'll never give up hope that Sugimoto is out there.

This show is so funny, brutal, weird and informative. Everytime I think ‚Now that was the most awesome episode‘ Golden Kamuy teaches me better.
This show has my whole heart and man Mondays are something to look forward too again. Can‘t wait until next week!

You won the internet today, lol. Golden Kamuy makes your chest hair grow too.

Hearing Sugimoto break into an intense ora ora ora makes me happy.

I'm still amused by how how entertaining and thrilling this show is when the male characters strip for comedy and for serious fighting. Not only does it make me laugh, but it always keeps me on the edge of my seat. That's one big reason why Golden Kamuy is so good. =D

I do sympathise with Sugimoto, though. Gansoku, despite being his opponent, did well to help Sugimoto come to terms over his anger for not being able to save Asirpa from being taken away from him back last season, so the Stenka was a good place for him to really vent out that anger that he's stored up all this time.

In the end, I'm glad that Sugimoto's group came to an agreement with Gansoku to copy his tattoos without having to kill him. Out of the escaped prisoners so far, Gansoku's one of my favourites. =)

Cikapasi also deserves some praise, too. Not only did he shoot down the Wolverine, with assistance, but he now knows what a proper "boner" looks like. Valuable lessons he has learnt today. XD

That was an awesome episode! We had comedy and some action but we got the feels too, with Sugimoto admitting that he feels useless after being separated from Asirpa. It's so sweet how much he misses her and her faith in him that he's still alive.

I love how the guys just strip at every opportunity after that first time when they got high together by accident haha

I guess next week will be more focused on the other group... which I can't wait for! I miss Asirpa and Shiraishi!

The OP song for some reason reminds me of one of the Bleach opening songs, I think it was called Chu-Bura. Just the vocals. It's not quite as great as the previous Golden Kamuy OP songs but still really nice to listen to.

As for the episode, this was another good one. It really hits me with this anime that there is so much MANSERVICE but the show still manages to find that right balance when it comes to mixing a serious and interesting narrative with really dumb comedy surrounding food, toilet humor and manservice, which is rare to see with a lot of anime I've seen.

ED song is nice too, fits that winter setting feel really well for me for some reason (probably due to the ED visuals).

Looks like we got some progression and at least Asirpa doesn't seem all depressed and unhappy like the last eps suggested. After all the immortal Sugimoto couldnt possibly be taken down so easily and will be on the case. The case being stenka fighting which got a little out of control and wild. Love it!

You mean the former USSR flag...and other socialist countries.

It was more of a visual gag than poetry - Sickle and Hammer should represent a union between the peasantry and working class but also can be viewed (like in this case) as a symbol of brutality and violence. Weapons instead of useful tools.

Golden Kamuy: One of the only anime that can make me feel sad for a character in the same episode that contained such absurdity as "BANYA!"

Also, while most people miss Asirpa and want to see more of her, I really miss Shiraishi. Glad he had at least a couple lines in this episode.

Stenka fights turned out into a mess after Sugimoto just went full berserk mode. He didn't even give a shit about the plan, and yeah, everyone just scared the fuck out with him xD. Meanwhile, the Ainu kids had a godly job there, by single handledly defeating that russian people. Still, their way to bait him into that trap just hilarious. At least they got the key, and yeah, saved the dog!

Banya scenes. Full of man services? Always come up with that plan. I found it hilarious, tho, so i don't mind that at all. Damn, to the tattoo prisoner that really deserved more punishment as he wishes, and all of them easily granted his wish just one of funniest and awkwardest at the same time for the whole my watching life. Lol.

Ah, the last brawl between Sugimoto and Gansoku was one of the most touchable moment for these series. I fell down after watching how depressing Sugimoto's feel about he was so useless after the death of Asirpa's father, and currently lost her as well. Its like his old friend fate at the flashback, and ofc, the memories felt intensed in the second of time. And yeah, its really got my nerved until the end of Gansoku line, 'Forgave yourself', and he deserved more respect to me. Yeah, Banya scenes again! I just hope that Gansoku helped the group to retaken Asirpa again.

But, well, its up to his decision. So lets see in the next episode about their progression to find Asirpa, and that betrayer. While in the other side, they looked so happy and fun with the meal time. No shit for Asirpa, and yeah she looks better than i expected! XD

The manservice is gonna be a perfect 10/10 at this rate... and I couldn't be happier.

Another fantastic and hella manly episode. Seeing Sugimoto releasing his inner communist Jojo was such a joy to watch xD

Now more seriously, it's incredible how this series does such a good job at making the story progress while also having the liberty to add such ridiculous moments without them feeling awkward nor out of place. They even managed to add some feels at the end by having Sugimoto admitting he felt useless for leaving Asirpa's side and that scene ended up feeling completely genuine as well.

As for Gansoku, he's such an eccentric man (absolutely in tune with the series) and I couldn't help but laugh every time his masochist side showed up. In the end, I'm glad Sugimoto and co. didn't have to kill him and came to an agreement to copy his tattoos. Hope I can see him again later on and if possible, seeing him interacting with Ushiyama again because I now need to know if it's true that he actually managed to beat him in prison.

I gotta give props to that wolverine, he was up against the manliest characters of the series and did not give up. He followed them all the way there! If I'm not mistaken that is the same wolverine from ep 1 right? RIP wolvie.

Also, I finally got to see Ogata again, he's one of my faves then again I have too many faves in this series.

Definitely not coincidental.

Dukino said:

But you know, before the Soviet Union there was the Russian Empire which was a totalitarian regime too. Hanging on a western Cold War propaganda imagery is kind of missing the point.
So better go with the Double Headed Eagle (plus a dude on a horse)...and the russians who Sugimoto fought in Port Arthur were using this exact code of arms.
I guess it's part of the joke, he has nothing against Sickle and Hammer because it's not a thing yet - around 8 years too early if we assume Golden Kamuy is happening in 1909. (This is too early even for the irish Starry Plough...but maybe an obscure chilean reference? Naaah.)
