The 25th and final episode of the new Fruits Basket anime's second season ended with an announcement on Tuesday that its final season will debut in 2021. The season, titled Fruits Basket: The Final will air on TV Tokyo, TV Aichi, and TV Osaka, among other channels.

Fruits Basket adapts Natsuki Takaya's supernatural shoujo manga, which ran in Hana to Yume magazine from 1998 to 2006. Takaya serialized the Fruits Basket: Another sequel manga between September 2015 and December 2018.

The first season of new television anime aired in 25 episodes last Spring. The second season began airing on April 7. Crunchyroll and Funimation simulcast both seasons with subtitles and in English dub, respectively. Funimation also licensed the anime's home video rights and released the first season in two volumes on November 19 last year and February 11.

Yoshihide Ibata (FLCL Progressive) is directing the new anime at TMS Entertainment, with Taku Kishimoto (Boku dake ga Inai Machi) handling the series composition. Yuu Shindou (Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru.) is designing the characters. The new anime will adapt the manga series in its entirety.

Expected but still fantastic even then! Pretty darn excited!

Season 2 imo hasn't been as great as the first Season but still glorious.

Now, the Q is how many more episodes to go...

Don't know what show you're watching. Fruits Basket has some of the best drama in anime.

This is actually the final season of the remake aired in 2019. You can watch the 2001 anime, but it doesn't adapt the whole story, and it alters and leaves things out from the manga. The reboot is quite faithful to the original story with the mangaka, Natsuki Takaya, supervising it.

Oh, i know! I've been watching the remake weekly on Funi since it started! I just thought it would be interesting to go back and watch 2001 and compare them since I had never seen it

Over the top? I don't usually like dramas in anime since they tend to be melodramatic af but Fruits Basket's drama isn't even that bad. It's actually grounded and a bit believable.

Yea same...I'm just waiting till Funimation finishes dubbing the 2nd Season before I binge watch it. Laura Bailey as Tohru is just sooo good and I refuse to watch the Japanese version because of it.

So unbelievably excited to see the final season! Even though I've been a fan of the series for years, there's something about this anime adaptation that is so magical. Watching every new episode always gets me so incredibly ecstatic! I hope the wait isn't too long, but I also don't want the studio to rush it either. They've done an amazing job thus far, and I know this final season is going to be just as great, or possibly, even better than what they've done!

When they announced the reboot, they stated that they're going to animate the entire story, so yes!

Hopefully it isn't bogged down with anywhere near as much filler as seasons 1 and 2, nor as abysmally paced.

Awesome! The wait until next year will be difficult, but I'm sure they'll make it worth our while. Maybe it'll be the icing off the post-pandemic cake, and by then it'll be so much sweeter. I wonder if they're gonna do Fruits Basket fan events...

Quite a while to wait for the final season to drop and finish the manga in its entirety.

Till then, Fruits Basket has succeeded its 2nd inning in 50 episodes. Let's hope that the final season will deliver a spectacular end as is with the manga.

When they first announced the complete adaptation of the manga, I thought, "wow, it might take a long time." But when I see this news and understand that the entire anime will consist of only three seasons, it no longer looks so impressive. Now I'm wondering how many hyped manga could be fully adapted in 2 or 3 seasons.

Actually when you think about it, each season is coherently paced well with each episode adapting 2 chapters of the manga. With Season 2's end at Chapter 97, the reminder (plus some omissions) will take at least another 13 episodes plus a few.

If I remember correctly, the entire manga re-adaptation is slated at 63 to 65 episodes, and actually announced by the production team along with the mangaka Natsuki Takaya herself prior to Season 1's airing back in 2018. With how much we've seen in both seasons, I do have doubts that the finalized episode count of the final season will make or break the entire series as a whole, but crossed fingers while it's probably another 2/3 seasons' worth of wait.
