Aniplex announced an original television anime titled SK∞: SK Eight (SK8 the Infinity), revealing a key visual (pictured) and the first promotional video on the Yunika Vision screen in Shinjuku, Tokyo on Sunday. The anime series, produced by animation studio Bones (Koukyoushihen Eureka Seven, Boku no Hero Academia), will debut in January 2021.

Staff
Director: Hiroko Utsumi (Free!, Banana Fish)
Series Composition: Ichirou Ookouchi (Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch, Koutetsujou no Kabaneri)
Character Design: Michinori Chiba (Basilisk: Kouga Ninpou Chou, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans)
Music: Ryo Takahashi (ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu-ka, Argonavis from BanG Dream!)

Synopsis
Reki, a high school sophomore and skater, is addicted to "S," a highly secret and dangerous downhill skateboarding race that takes place in an abandoned mine. The skaters are especially wild about the "beefs," or heated battles that erupt in the races.

Reki takes Langa, a transfer student returning to Japan after studying abroad, to the mine where the races are held. Langa, who has no skateboarding experience, finds himself pulled into the world of "S"... (Source: Aniplex US)

Honestly I’m pretty hyped for this considering I’ve seen like no skating anime beside air gear, if you can even count that one, hopefully Bones can make this a hit.

Surprised a skateboarding anime had never been done before considering it's popularity back in the 2000s. Closest ones being Air Gear which was rollerblading and some sequences in K when Yata skated.

Not that interested in this but will still check it out.

Could be fun. I think it's been forever since Bones and Aniplex have collaborated on an original anime together.

I can only watch the PV on the Twitter account, YouTube says "it's not available in my country " ):

Anyways, director of free and banana fish? Almost no female characters? Yep I know where this is going.

It's funny, because just yesterday i've been wondering if there are any skateboarding anime (probably because i've been playing tony hawk recently), so this announcement came just at the right time for me.

Uh, not a fan of those designs, I was hoping for something more grounded like YoI rather than the usual otome-tier colored hair boys.

I'm not particularly into Utsumi and her work with BF was terrible, but there is not much anyone could have done with only 24 episodes.

This anime make me want to play the Tony Hawk Pro Skater remakes, so I'm looking forward to seeing it. I also like the soundtrack too.

Pretty good staff here, but the plot and skating genre doesn't really interest me

I mean, sure the character designs could've been a bit less rainbow colored and wild but I'm looking forward to it. Studio Bones and skateboard with that staff should be entertaining!

From the pv, they did put alot of effort into the skating animation. The premise seems above average and the director has great track on working original sport show, if weren't not my cup of tea, but were fairly solid. But shame the character designs looks very unappealing and unrealistic that instantly ruins my immersion to watch it.

Everything except the wildly coloured hair seems really good. The skating sequences. Animation overall. Story and characters are still in the dark though. The director is fairly competent, Banana fish was a huge and demanding project and I think she did an amazing job with the number of episodes she got to work with.

An original anime from a good studio about a sport we didn't have yet is always welcomed. (and although the fujobait is inevitable, it really doesn't have to ruin anyone's enjoyment)

Bones is now a shameful studio going from classic sci-fi, adventure, action, mecha, drama, anime of 00s and early 10s to gaybait these days. Bones is totally dead in case of TV originals these days.

Skip Skip Skip. I haven't heard of news of new original TV anime like old times for many months now, I am really sad due to huge lack of new original series to look forward to.

Based Utsumi, she still manages to find ways to trigger insecure dudes 7 years after Free. Hopefully there is more fujo pandering than ever!

It's not about fujo-pandering so much as its about how the first and potentially only anime about a sport that plenty of people would like to see a show made about won't actually be about the sport in question but just used as a vehicle to display sorta good-looking 2d characters. And it's not like it can't appeal to a certain demographic while doing so either, just look at Haikyuu and Run with the Wind.

In short the premise seems stupid and the character designs are lackluster, so it feels like a slap in the face to someone who's been looking forward to there ever being a show made about the subject. It's probably just gunna be another mediocre show that everyone will forget as soon as it stops airing.

Those are a lot of assumptions about a show that hasn't aired yet and it's only one trailer.

Of course, but personally I did not find anything in said trailer appealing, so my expectations are quite low. I'll still give it a chance though.

Bones is infamous with their originals being bad. I have low expectations with this. The artsyle is mediocre and character designs too. The animation is good. The story is fujobait.

Nice tears in comments. I enjoyed.

I'm in because Utsumi is directing and pretty boys are skateboarding. SK8 and other similar original anime and multimedia projects adaptations (HypMic and Project Scard) are obviously joseimuke; aimed at women. Like how all those fanservice-y female sports and all-female anime are aimed at perverted guys. Women are also allowed to have their own preferences.

You need to watch old Bones anime and you will see and feel the pain of downgrade their original anime has gone through over this decade.

I love how any show with hint of having good looking male characters instantly brings in all the insecure male anime fans out. I don't see this much of instant hate when a yuri-bait/GL comes out.

Also, Bones made Carole and Tuesday last year- and that was amazing. The more you know

dont be naive Carol and Tuesday is a bad show and the second half is the story being different from the premise. And its overrated lol.

The same director behind Free and Banana Fish? Is Bones really taking time out of their schedule to make fujo bait?

Or Mob Season 3, since that's popular enough and definitely within their wheelhouse
