He's a gifted writer (Key the Metal Idol) and animator (Akira) and seems to have moved to the hentai (AT-2) and eroge industry for a while. He worked on some influential hentai stuff for AT-2, the same studio Akiyuki Shinbou worked for at that time (e.g. the wrote the notorious Pigeon Blood). He returned to mainstream anime with the TV series White Album Seasons 1+2, the https://myanimelist.net/anime/124/Fushigi_Yuugi__Eikouden OVA 4. In between he directed a kids show (https://myanimelist.net/anime/2024/Yoshimune ), building on similar work he did in the early 1990s at the beginning of his career. I didn't go into sourcing it all, I've just trust anidb.net here to have done it. Given he worked on two very influential anime (Akira, Key the Metal Idol) in key positions, his staff page should be more complete.
