You can watch anime at any age, I’m turning 18 in a few months and I still enjoy a number cartoons or live action series aimed at children or younger teens, plenty of fully grown adults gleefully watch Disney or ghibli films. I don’t see what makes anime different.

It doesn’t exactly matter what you like, but how you interact with it and why you like it.

For example, if you’re watching anime for the types of stories you can’t get in other media, or because it appeals to you the way other sorts of media doesn’t. That’s fine. If you’re 25 years old and watching anime as an excuse to look at “sexy high schoolers”, that’s a problem.
When I remember, I can still smell your scent, you and I are the same color perfume

It's not weird to watch anime if you are 25 or older. It's just entertainment.
I'm 19 and I don't feel weird watching anime at all

No ? Why would it be weird ? If its a hobby of yours then go for it who's gonna stop you ? I never get these kinds of questions like I don't even think it's weird for an 80 year old to watch anime

If you ask such questions then you should quit right now. Why should you spend your time on something you are planning to give up in a few years?

I'd say the perfect time to watch anime is when you're a teenager. That way you won't feel guilty for getting horny to high school girls.

There's at least 100+ new shows a year. There's always going to be something good.

At the rate anime quality is declining, I doubt it, but who knows.

Oh yeah didn't you know!? Peak anime was in the 1980's and it's always been declining. /s

My husband and I are 31 and still watch anime together. Went to Japan in 2019 and shopped in many anime stores like Animate and Jump Store. Still play video games too in our free time. Everyone has to have hobbies that interest them.

No, it's not weird.

I'd say if you still watch anime at age 40 it's weird, since by then you should have exhausted watching all the good anime.

There is enough enjoyable anime to last two lifetimes, and good things keep coming out. I'm still about 3 years behind on seasonals.

1. Like any adult will feel guilt about that, especially for cartoon characters.
2. Anime in general has way more stuff in it than sex and sexual tension.

80s-90s were the Golden Age of anime.
00s - the Silver Age.
And post-2010 is, well, the Ice Age.
There are still some gems appearing from time to time, but degradation keeps going.

I'm 27 and I still watch anime. It's not weird imo. Like sure, I probs wouldn't tell my work colleagues, but I don't care about my friends and stuff knowing.

There's been sort of an age shift when it comes to normalizing things like watching anime/gaming and the likes. It would have been frowned upon and teased about 15 plus years ago, but these days it's increasingly becoming the norm, where young adults are still doing these sorts of things. I'm 27 myself, watching more than ever before. I think the younger generation would be surprised by how many of us play and watch this entertainment.

Absolutely NOT! I'm 28 and still love anime. Two of my friends are middle aged women in their 50's, and they love anime. Anime has no age limit. Don't ever feel ashamed of loving anime!

Started anime as 15/16 even tho i watched dragon ball at very young age but i won't count that, my real journey started in 2018 ig with Death Note..it was awesome Right Now I'm not even 20+ but i just don't wanna stop watching anime it's something very dear to me now idk if i will let it go...but ig there r some times when u have to leave thing's for better...25+ year old has alot of responsibilities not cuz they r old so they should stop watching these but cuz of responsibilities they had to complete...so maybe that's why some people might find it weird 25+ watching anime...but i think I'm getting it since I'm becoming old and i have to built up a future i know that i have to limit some things in my life... and that might be anime/movies/games...Cuz we have to deal with reality too..watching anime isn't bad at 25 but not caring about ur responsibilities is bad..

I'm 34 right now and I started watching Anime when I was about 27-28? I don't think it's weird exactly? you don't exactly know at what age a hobby/interested will hook you. However... I find the age gap between the users I chat with (I'm usually always the oldest... by quite a ways...) awkward sometimes, even though I don't act my age at all.

I think most of the toxic people who infest this place think like OP does. They're embarrassed for watching anime and hold the medium in contempt. I'll be watching when I'm old and grey.

No. But if you are still stuck in the battle shonen phase or obsess and selfinsert in kid/ young teen characters there is something definitely weird.

I'll probably stop watching anime when I reach 20 and it's for the better. I'm already feeling the burnout and have seen pretty much all anime has to offer by now lol. In general it's not weird so long as you're not a grown ass adult obsessed with teens and kid characters and, as mentioned by others, self-insert. Also you're too old to have "waifus". In fact let's dismantle that cringe ideology altogether

As someone who used to think about that and is like 24.4, I don't think it's that weird. Your relationship with the media you consume will grow, and your perspective towards it will mature.

It may have seemed uncommon a decade ago because fewer people had the exposure to really grow up with Anime.

That said I don't watch this kid shit myself. Fuck Anime.

My step-dad watches anime and he is around 37 yrs old.

(Even some of my co-workers that are over 30 yrs old watch anime)

I think nothing is wrong with watching anime. It's literally animation.

People are only asking this about anime and other animated media, never about live action Hollywood movies or Netflix series or something.
Even tho a lot of them are as stupid and shallow imo like a lot of anime are, and some others are on par level with some anime.

What is weird is thinking something is more childish just because the drawings move. It's the kind of stories that you watch, not how the stories are made.
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you want it to be?

It used to be seen as a weird thing if you where a middle schooler or older and you would get bullied for being into anime back in the 2000s. thankfully is no longer the case thanks to anime becoming mainstream after the 2008 recession around 2012-2013 or so.

Just keep watching anime, no one is going to mock you anymore.

Sure you could give it up, and do what adults do. In the grand scheme of things you should do what makes you happy. One day I was camping in the desert attending a rave and I was miserable. After a lot of soul searching I realized I'd rather be at home watching SAO (this was during it's initial adult swim run). Watching anime and reading books and comic books makes me happy so I still do it.

Do what makes you happy, stop doing what doesn't
That's the problem with eternal damnation, you get used to it after a while

Most people that have created some of the most infamous anime/manga were in their 40's. Now you've gotta think that these creators took influence from other creators... meaning they watched anime. I just turned 25 and haven't seen a recent anime in about 6 years. I am actually wanting to get back INTO anime at this point in my life. It is not weird.

In a way, yes, in a way, no. It's okay to watch serious anime as an adult. But even if you're in your 50s and you're watching teen shows, I still don't see a problem, even if it might seem socially odd.

I don't know in wich category to put the age between 20-30.
I'm 26 and if i'm going to do "older person" things like, i dunno, apply for a loan or something like that everybody is saying that i'm to young for that but if i'm watching anime or read manga i'm to old. so confusing.
