Hey guys, maybe you can explain it to me. I don t understand why Coleman sells the paintings and make his wife buy it.

If he love these paintings so much he could just keep them no? Or at least buy them privately to the owner.

He already bought the painting 20000 dollars here so i don t understand why he tries to sell it again and make her wife pay millions for it while he already bought it.

If anyone can explain i would appreciate.

i think because he's supposed to be an auctioneer, that's his job to sell them if he would've just taken them to himself it will ruin the whole point of his job?
so he makes someone buy it for him.
that's what i think, i was also not really sure at the start.

I understand that it s his job. But it s his job when clients contact him to sell painting at high prices, in this case he doesn t own the paintings. But for the Montoya painting, he bought it from the team for 20000 dollars so he already owns it but still sell it during aunctions.

Did i missed something?

He probably gets a good cut of the money. Coleman also probably wanted to increase his mythos of the James Bond of art as well, he already went public with it. Why not ride that train. Every mark so far has always exuded an enormous amount of confidence and they always felt that they are always in control, which is probably why they were marks in the first place.

It's very possible Coleman wanted to have his cake and eat it too. In his mind there was no way that someone would outbid him, ofc then the gang comes in. The same way Eddie Cassano allowed Abby to go with them showing the renovation of the factory just because the "doctor" took a liking to her even though she's supposed to be just a slam piece. The same way Sam Ibrahim was easily seduced into the underground casino. They were all people who think they are in control (because they have been in control all this time) and then bit off more than they can really chew.

Sorry i don't have an answer for you but only a guess. My guess he wants to as much money from the old lady(she is not his wife) and also keep the painting. He also get more fame like mention on other comments.

You are right it's big loop hole he basically already has the old ladies money and can still gets fame from discovering it. It might just be a lazy plot devise to have our heroes get the painting back.

Yeah, at the beginning I let this slide. But during the last episode, I asked myself the same question... This situation is really very strange.

This is very sad and disrespectful to Cole. He sold that painting over five years ago to help his sick wife. That doesn't mean he didn't love her or anything like that. It's just that he sacrificed his passion and love to pay her bills. So it wasn't even his choice.

I didn't understand that point either when I was watching the anime. It all looks a bit like a plot hole. But the paintings are really super.

I remember the fact that it s his process. But it s his activity while customers touch him to promote painting at high fees, in this situation he doesn't own the paintings. But for the Montoya painting, he offered it from the team for 20000 bucks so he already owns it but nevertheless promote it during auctions.
