This question is from my friend who haven't watched Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series before. If he only watch movies, is it alright for him to follow the plot ?

You can watch the films without watching the TV series and follow the plot just fine. I would recommend watching the series first though because you spend a lot more time with the characters. Be warned the plot of the films diverges greatly from the TV series.

The movies, then if he likes them, the series and the movie for the series for better understanding and the original ending meanwhile we all wait for the 4th movie.

Imo to enjoy the Rebuild movies fully you need to watch the series and End of Evangelion first.

Is the plot divergence you speak of done for the good to do the show justice or it further fucks up the show? Note that i am empty about what happens in the Evangelion franchise including the series or movies whatsoever. The only thing i have heard is that the series had some sort of messy ending.
Subjectivity is a joke on MAL. If you implicitly bring in subjectivity in your counter argument, you've already lost the debate. Also this website is a fankid infestation , have pity on those kids by ignoring there quotes as they have absolutely no clue what exactly is going on.

The messy ending you're talking about is from the original show, which leaves many unresolved plot points from the show unanswered. However, the movie End of Evangelion answers these. The Rebuild movies offer essentially a different take on the plot, and while many consider them worse off then the original, you do not have to watch the original to understand them. However, if you are choosing between watching the rebuild movies or the original show and conclusion movie, I would recommend the latter.

it's not that hard to understand but be sure to be warned this has got some mature themes as it is psychoanalytical driven and can get confusing at times but bare with it and it delivers a promising impact on the viewer.

The movies are the sequel from the anime + the end.
