It was quite funny and entertaining. Now I think I understand to what extent is Goto's obsession in giving his daughter a better quality of life.

Although, I was somewhat intrigued by what happened in the end.

This show is turning out to be more interesting than I thought it would. The comedy is hit or miss imo but the selling point of the show is how adorable the father-daughter relationship is.

Ugh, this is frustrating. I can see that in a lot of ways, this is a quality show. However, as a comedy, it's really not my cup of tea. I want to like this show, but if I'm being honest, it's just not for me. That's not to say there's no laughs, I laughed out loud at the bit about Kamakura fever, but the overly protective/adoring father I generally find really hard for shows to get right and this just isn't it to me, and sadly that's 90% of the anime.

well the OP was already hinting quite hardly that the DAD would disappear/die as the girl becomes older, but the second episode made it 95% certain that he is actually dead at this point. I hope they don't make it too drama-heavy and we won't actually have to experience seeing his death or something. After all, these are the Genres: Slice of Life, Comedy, Shounen.
If they want to stick with the comedy and not the drama, I'll still hope for those 5% to be the following:
Dad's embarrassing secret is revealed to the public; perhaps he's even accused of some heavy shit, like keeping child pornography; whatever the reason, he ends up mentally scarred, humiliated and ashamed, disappearing from the daughter's life as he no longer sees himself as a worthy parent. The show ends with them reuniting. - well this is how i'll vision it till proven wrong.

Another pretty fun episode, i ended up boosting this to an 8/10 because it's actually pretty funny. The whole police raid on the studio was pretty damn funny, i certainly didn't expect him to get away like that xD
Also, is the dad dead at the end or what? I was genuinely confused

pranaynighukar said:
so...is he dead? i dont care if u spoil it for me

Seems like it. In the opening he fades away as his daughter is growing. His wife also seems to have died, and left those numbered boxes that go up to 16, and since he made boxes that go up to 18, he most likely died and left those behind.

Well that's just sad. So mom made boxes 8-16 before she died and dad learned to sew so he could make boxes 17-20.

Another funny and heartwarming episode. The scene about the yukata and the boxes made me tear up... and don't tell me he's going to die. There's even new boxes beyond 16 years old in that flash-forward.... ;_;

Poor sensei misunderstanding the cuteness Goto was talking about xD.

Fantastic episode again, the comedy is on point and it's wholesome too.

The Indian chef part was really funny. xD

The ending almost feels ominous. Curious what direction this will take.

I can't believe it's only the 2nd episode and it's already making me tear up. I was certainly not expecting a dark turn to this anime, I thought it was supposed to be lighthearted comedy the whole way. Not complaining though, I'm ready for the feels ;__;

This show feels so fun and lighthearted... but it seems we're headed to a bittersweet ending.

That bit with the Indian chef was the funniest part.

So who sewed those for her? Probably her mom, huh, since he can't sew.

And the final scene... it's their house isn't it? Just abandoned. It's only episode two and we've just started, but I'm already pained seeing it. I don't want Hime to go through something so sad, but it's basically confirmed.

I wonder what happened...

Better than the first episode. Comedy had a better flow and I'm kinda curious about that last scene. Wonder if Kakushi actually died or he just... I don't know, moved out or stopped being a mangaka and the ominous atmosphere is just bait.

Right. Because everything has to be just extreme opposites. There's no room for balance and a deeper connection beyond the typical weabo maternal feelings to "protecc" an underage female character.

Authors like Takeda Ayanao from Hibike Euphonium wasted her time writing elaborate stories of parents and their children. She should had wroten something a lot more simple around the "protecc meme" and add easy "wholesome" scenes here and there to please the simpletons that want nothing but pure escapism. Am I right?

This anime will hit you so hard in the feelings, I can feel it already! It's cute to see how Kakushi loves his child.
Can I also say... respect for the mother? Those boxes... Kakushi didn't even know about them. A mother's love goes even beyond the grave <3

I really hope they're just baiting us that the father is dead - the original boxes in the cupboard were obviously done by the mother (As he was being taught how to sew) but they haven't stated that she's dead, just not around.

Also there must be someone else involved we've not seen yet - as she didn't get the key from his work colleagues.

I actually think she got the key indirectly from her father.
After his funeral it became her inheritance. He's also the one who probably made those boxes (17, 18, 19, 20), continuing where her mother left off.

 Not that good episode... 😕

    The plot was very simple and didn't add nothing to the story, let's wait the next one be more fun.

    I think that for me it is getting a little irritating also the fact that the father is overly cautious with his daughter and in not making her discover his secret, but I still intend to give the anime a few more chance.

Ok now the OP visuals makes sense... when Hime growing up and in her current state the father disappeared.. Gotou's dead aint he?
Yeah the comedy isn't really doing it for me as well, comedy is highly subjective but the comedy here is stale/boring as hell. Only reason why I can stay with this is because of the seiyuus, I mean we have Ayaneru(Yotsuba/Uraraka), TakaRie(Emilia, Megumin), Kamiya Hiroshi (Araragi/Shinji), Yasuno Kiyono(Kate Megumi),Uchida Maaya(Rika) and Natsuki Hanae (Tanjirou/Jaco) so I don't care if this won't make me laugh, hearing all of them in one show will be more than enough reason for me to keep up.

The jokes weren't as funny this time, the obsessive nature of care he has for Hime makes him do some stupid things and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

But then things turned to be actually not funny and quite sad so suddenly... Well, I still enjoyed most of it, just can't help but compare to Zetsubou-sensei a bit in terms of comedy quality.
