only if it's expanded to allow the full emoji consortium to be used as ratings

I agree 100% on this. The poop emoji beside Death Parade was something I unknowingly needed my whole life.

No, I can't live with whole numbers. I need decimals in my life. Sure you can't use it in rating stuff but it matters in overall scores.

Nope. Emojis suck and they don't tell the full score. Like I want to know if the show is a 9 or 9.01 or etc

I rate a lot of things with 1s so the poop emoji would be the most appropriate for them.

This whole rating stuff really gave me headaches at one point, nowadays I don't really care tbh - emojis are fine as well - if it were me, I'd use probably 3 signs, thumbs up, thumbs down, neutral. I like simple.

also makes people who sweat the top of the leaderbaord find their purpose in life meaningless. should make this rating system a genuine way to rate.

I completely agree. I mean, 1,3,8,2 what are those huh? Have you ever heard of them? They are not even in wikihow. I mean, how am i suposed to know what they are. We should use the language we know. And lastly could anyone explain to me what is 69?

Please no...it'd be a completely unnecessary change and if this wasn't a joke it'd just be a sad attempt to pander to a younger generation. No different from the shitty emoji movie, just on a much smaller scale. I already can't take a lot of the reviews on here seriously, this wouldn't exactly help with that.

Myanimelist actually implementing something good into their trash rating system is an April Fool's joke. You love to see it.

Same bro. I literally judge anime with points. Like even 0.1 point matters you know.

I don't consider rating art any fun. If it's anything else, fine, but not art.
Now if I were to use a poop emoji... it might be a little less painful.

Keep it.

I'd prefer it to go back to decimal numbers. Not having them in front of me is making me very anxious, and it unallows overall scores to be more precise, like, it's just as if a show rated 7,03 and a show rated 7,87 ended up with the same score, it's confusing.
Plus, the emojis don't really represent how I feel about each show...

Completely agree. But I do need decimals.

They should do something like "Medal point poop" for 8.1, which would be more funny than what it already is imo.

It’s not bad but they should still keep the number rating beside when you press the anime, or they should make a settings system that allows you to switch between them. I don’t know if you noticed but on MAL 8.10 and 8.90 is a big difference, and emoji doesn’t give you that information. It’s still a pretty fun idea though... 💭

One solution regarding the decimal problem that I have in mind is to implement the abacus. That way, we'll be even stronger in mental mathematical calculations someday.

I think we should change the decimal ratings to have 4 decimal places to have better accuracy, I think that 0.0001 potential difference in anime score will really help me decide whether to watch an anime over another one.

If you want different scoring systems go to a place like AniList. I browse shows here by their score and I don’t want to have to distinguish from a bunch of emojis

I have the same issue with it, really. I might be able to get used to the fact that we have emoji stand-ins for our own scores, but at the least, they should keep the mean scores in numbers. We frankly don't get enough information from just the emojis... although we can still access the number scores, all you have to do is select the region with the score, and the number is visible. Alternatively, just use Ctrl+A and look at the emoji, and you'll find the mean score there.

I have no intention of using these emojis, as it took me long enough to get used to the number scale, and I'd rather not go through the trouble of mentally converting these new symbols into numbers again... but they should definitely leave the option in list settings for those who are interested.

You never know maybe this is only a temporary thing or they might add an option to change it back for users who want the number scale.

Well, we got a confirmation of that. It seems that things will be going back soon, but the option to stick to emoji will remain in list settings.

Happy April Fools! Thanks to everyone who forgot what time of year it was and got fooled by our prank for a few seconds again~ We hope it made you laugh once you figured it out.

To the number of people who seemed legitimately concerned... April Fools is a tradition around MAL, something we've been doing for over a decade. Try not to take goofy site changes literally when they're posted around the first of April :'D Though of course I hope you'll forget this advice until after you're fooled again next year.

Site will return to normal at 23:59 PDT. Enjoy it while it lasts.

For List Designers: We'll look into keeping the score classes in the list design (empty) for your devious disposal.

If they do keep it, it should be an option, as in, those who prefer the emojis can leave them on and those who prefer scores can turn on scores.
