The jury of seven men and five women reached their verdict on Monday morning, the fifth day of deliberations. Weinstein - who denied all charges - was convicted of sexually assaulting former production assistant Mimi Haleyi in 2006 and raping Jessica Mann, a former aspiring actress, in 2013. But the jury acquitted him on two counts of predatory sexual assault, which carried a potential life sentence, and first-degree rape of Mann. He will be sentenced on 11 March. Weinstein lawyer Ms Rotunno said they will be appealing against the conviction "immediately". I've been waiting for that to happen and it keeps not happening I assumed it was already well known that you'd have to sleep with a few sleazy people to make it in Hollywood. I'm not saying it's right, but it's always been apart of the culture. Undoubtedly the agents and managers for the actresses knew they were sending them off to the proverbial Weinstein casting couch. They caught the big fish, but its rather sleazy how others aren't being held accountable too. |
