If you were only allowed to recommend 1 anime for the rest of your life, which one would it be and why?

Now it doesn't have to be a specific genre. Just something you think everyone should atleast see.

Given

A non-tropey BL drama that deals with the all-too-real subject of teen suicide (that is exponentially higher for LGBT+) is a shining star in a vast sea of misrepresentation and stereotypes. There are no sexual scenes or sexualization that would be considered offensive to a general audience and the group/band dynamic can appeal to any viewer. I would go as far as to say that it is the most approachable BL with Doukyuusei as a close second. Plus the opening, ending, and insert song are really damn good.

Hunter x Hunter 2011 obviously. Have you seen my profile? It's unrivaled and not popular enough.

Hunter x Hunter. The show encapsulates everything brilliant about anime and it executes (and sometimes subverts) all the common anime tropes well.

If you’ve seen me around here you know I love to recommend Fullmetal Alchemist, and I’ll do the same here. It’s a great anime whether you’ve seen tons or none at all, it has everything from comedy to action to even a little romance, and normally anyone can get something out of it, big or small. Anime is a wonderful diverse medium

Despite this not nr being in my top 3. I still find this anime to be one the best to recommend.

Chrono Crusade, it offers pretty much everything you want for action based anime.

Action, loveable characters filled with funny and heartfelt interaction, along with the twist and turns we love when it comes to anime, without it feeling too forced, along with choice and the consequences, that follows, and a threatening villain will feel like a real threat to the characters you follow.

Land of the Lustrous, I love it for so many reasons but to list a few-

The music and especially the art direction is so inspiring, one of the prettiest animations ive ever seen. a reminder that just because something is CGI does not mean its garbage, i get tired of hearing that. Its also very quotable! the dialogue stands out to me a lot. Loved the concept of purposefully lacking beings, while seeming rather human are still obviously missing something.

Though despite all the reasons I like it, i dont feel theres anything id recommend to everyone lol but yeah in theory id say lustrous as its not really target audience specific, and can be in a general sense enjoyed by anyone as it doesnt contain anything graphic or offensive.

If I could get a special kind of alzheimer that allowed me to forget one show and see it for the first time over and over again.
It would be Hunter X Hunter (2011).

Nothing even comes close.

One piece is my favourite anime but it's a personal thing, not many people like one piece that I recommend it to. If I had to pick 1 i'd just tell people to look off my anime list and pick one themselves. But to answer your question i'd say Jojo's Bizarre Adventure if I had to recommend 1

This thread has some great recommendations, it all seems pretty diverse as well.
I'll probably recommend Uchuu Kyoudai (Space brothers)
The story of an adult with a dream of becoming an astronaut. This is by far the best slice of life I have ever seen. A sci-fi, seinen, comedy that tells the heartwarming and amazing story of two brothers.

Uchuu Senkan Yamato, it was the 1st anime I ever saw and still resonates with me after all this time. The remake 2099 is so much better.
I mean the remake is my choice.

If I could pick movies, too, I'd recommend Perfect Blue. I'd recommend it even if I knew for a fact that they weren't into anime.
Ya boy is going to AniMinneapolis 2020! See you there!

Since it's for recommendation, I would pick Macross ~Ai oboete imasu-ka because it's a blockbuster with things for many different peoples and is among the best-looking animated things of all times.

(for myself, I would choose EVA, of course)

Attack On Titan.....

I'd never recommend a show thats old to someone (Dragon Ball Z Targeted)
i loved Dragon Ball Z, and my memories of it were great, but as time goes on i realize people let the other opinions of a anime influence their own feeling about an Anime, this is a general thing in society people do alot anyway, anyways i got off topic, but i'd recommend Attack On Titan! Its greaaaaaaaaaatttttt

Shingeki no kyojin obv

it's something popular still not trash, the perfect reccomendation. Both people who want something deep or just want to see smth with epic scenes while relaxing will like it
A person's life is not comprised of four repeating season, but a year-long winter wilderness, whether or not you stop to wipe your blood or tears, they will inevitably freeze over.
