I remembered when Honzuki no Gekokujou was released first, the score dropped tremendously to as low as 6.3. The scoring really turned me off and forcing me to think that this was a bad show as I'm a relatively new anime watcher who started anime last year. However, I decided to give it a try on this series. The story plot was good and it was interesting to me at least, and I just can't figure out why this show was rated as 6/10. In my opinion, it could have been 7.5/10 or higher, but that's from my perspective. Maybe it was really a bad show for the rest since everyone was giving it a low score rating almost every episode on MyAnimeList, I guess?

Right now, the series has ended. I have to say that this was such a good ride and very entertaining. I have never been bored with Honzuki no Gekokujou since episode 1 to episode 14, and I was really happy to see many people think the same too right now, which gave this series a score of 8.07!

What do you guys think?

I'm not well acquainted with most drama in the anime scene, so I can't say for certain. However, judging from my own personal reactions, I can at least hypothesize why it scored so low initially.

The fact that it's an ikesai that doesn't really feel like an isekai at all could definitely have been a reason. Without sounding too elitist or condescending, there exist hordes of ikesai fans that will pick up any title with the isekai label, in the pursuit of their seasonal op protagonist beating everything's ass and establishing dominance, be it the result of a simple interest in shounen action or some more deep-seated phenomenon like a power trip. Bookworm didn't meet either criteria, and honestly emphasized the under-powered protagonist.

Anyway though, anime below the top 10 or so most popular in the season tend to be barraged by crappy ratings and people watch the first episode with preconceived notions of it being a bad show, because it has a small following, then dropping it and rating a 5 if it does anything short of absolutely wowing them. It happens a lot, but it really got me last season with Machikado Mazuko, which by all means was easily in the top 5 shows of the season, but being 23rd most popular, meant it was destined for a <8 rating and 50k members.

I think you're right on the money with that one, I've seen so many reviews of so m any isekai that view the series purely from the wish fulfillment perspective, not taking into consideration the other factors, like if people are actually invested in the story or characters

To be fair, I also would have rated this a 6/10 after just two episodes. It gets way better though.
