Fellow 30 year olds, do you intend to abandon anime now that you aren't young anymore? :)

Well, I'm still a young buck. fuck anime

Why should I? Other people don't ask themselves, if they will continue watching live action Netflix series etc when they turn 30 either, or did I miss something?

I'm only 24, I felt too old to be watching it when I started and that feeling has only grown over time, but then I feel so much older than I am. I doubt I'll ever stop because of my age. I might however move on to other things if I get bored.

I'm 30 too, but the way things are with the anime industry, I don't watch as much as I used to. I'm more into dark and gritty entertainment nowadays, anime or not. In other words, I'll just be waiting for the right new anime for me as long as possible.

If I was asked this at 14 I would have definitely said NO. But I don't think it's possible for me to get away from anime at this point (and I don't want to either).

Ahah; usually peoples understand that the whole idea that you need to "abandon something you like because now you're too old for that, you need more mature hobbies" is just a misunderstanding of young adults and it's lost before they reach 30, I'd say.
Young adults easily fall into the trap of thinking that they need more "adult" hobbies and stuff because they're no longer a child so they need to act mature on everything and so on.
When you grow older you see things differently. You only have one life so it would be silly to abandon something you like just because "it's usually for peoples younger than you" as long as you still can enjoy it.
Once you don't enjoy it, then it's time to search another hobby, but until then? That would certainly be unwise ;3.

Absolutely not. Anime is love, anime is life. I'll still be watching anime long after One Piece, HxH and Berserk are over.

I grew up watching anime when I was a kid so I don't think I would quit watching it. But I do find myself watching less since I'm more motivated to watch K-dramas or lakorns nowadays.
It's more like I feel a bit old to still be watching high school-ers which is always in anime/manga compared to dramas, which are more likely to have 20-30 year old actors/characters I can relate to.

Ugh, yeah I would definitely let you enjoy quality Japanese animation even if you got children and household to care for, and I would even assist you. Not hinting at anything but.

Not hinting at anything but you might have already met him y'know...

Besides this is not the age where women are supposed to conform to whatever wishes the male counterpart has. It is about harmony, not submission. Of course, love transcends these understandings of social roles.

Barely watching anything, but maybe I'll tune in once or thrice a year. Most likely short shows with fanservice, mecha or idols. I'm a bit too old to waste time watching talking animated heads. If I want a more indepth narrative exposition, I'll just read a VN.

I turn 31 in may and i get more into anime by the year. I have no plans of stopping, hell it'll take me 2 lifetimes to watch everything that i need to catch up on and then there's even more shows coming out every season so i'll be watching anime till i die and still not get to watch over half of what i want to.

Nearing 30 and still really enjoying anime, even the really bad ones.

I have no plans to abandon whatsoever and I don't think I ever will til the day I die.

The only thing I worry about is how higher priorities from personal life later down the stretch may change or compromise how often I can watch or talk about anime, though.

33 here, and I’ve only just started getting back into anime. I’ve been a fan since I was 13, but I’ve been distracted this past decade or so, so I haven’t been able to keep up. Recently rediscovered the joy of watching it. I don’t think age will ever be a factor in me loving something.

I was on MAL since almost its beginnings, when I was still a teenager, but time flies when one has fun, and now I am in my 30s.

I have a decent job, am responsible as an adult, and I can't really complain about anything about my life, but being 30 IS kind of, well, being 30 - I don't mind my age (in fact, there were times when I felt much worse when I was young), so I kinda wonder about my manchild inner self, I guess...

Like, despite my age, I still think, dunno, that Vegetto from Dragon Ball series is fucking cool, that Omegamon from Digimon franchise is badass, and so on.

https://myanimelist.net/character/170671/Vegetto
https://myanimelist.net/character/10229/Omegamon

In fact, in some way me being at the start of my 30s, and this being the start of a new decade, I am as optimistic as ever about anime, and wonder what will future bring - there MUST be at least something good.

So anyway, what about you guys, are your 30s the end of everything anime related, or something else?

Are you ready to become 100% adult?

Dude you were implying like being an adult means leaving behind an entire medium of entertainment just because it is animated. I am offended. To be quite frank, I still find some Anime to be more mature than some of the Netflix shows everyone brags about

When I was young I was out clubbing and meeting girls etc. It's only since I hit my later 20's that I had the time to start watching anime.

After experiencing FMA I got hooked and dived in to the anime medium head first. I had a big binge in my late 20's then life got in the way again. It's only been in the last couple of years that I picked anime back up when I had more time on my hands again.

Since then I've gotten into watching seasonally airing anime, something I never did before, and I love it. It's a new experience for me seeing all these great shows coming out every season. I'm closing in on my 40's and enjoying anime more than I ever have atm. I'm making the most of it as I know that I can't watch anime forever, as other time commitments will undoubtably lead to me having less free time to watch anime.

I'm resolved to keep watching some anime (maybe leave out the seasonal shows) even if I'm busy, because watching SoL & cgdct shows is very relaxing and a good way to wind down when I'm stressed. So even if I can't keep up with new anime I'd like to still keep a toe in the water so to speak.

Turned 33 last November. Of course I'm not going to abandon the things I love.

Anime (or more accurately, Otaku culture at large) is my passion. I think people that give up their passions when they get older - or worse, those who never find something to dedicate their life to - are kind of sad.

Everyone needs to have their thing. It's funny when people with no passion, nothing interesting about their life, criticize "nerds" for being "obsessive". I'd rather hear someone talk passionately about something I know nothing about than hear them recount some mundane, everyday experience with which I can relate.

I like the way you put this. I didn't realise it but this is one of the main reasons why I don't get much joy out of socialising with coworkers and why I grew apart from childhood friends. They are happy with the same old mainstream hobbies like going to pubs and clubs and the same old holiday spots every year while I like to throw myself into something like a musical instrument or a video game or anime and really get invested and try to learn all about it and be good at it.

I'm 34 now. I'm playing catch up because I neglected anime for so long while pursuing other hobbies and dealing with real life. MAL has really helped me to focus more on anime. I only had 18 days watched when I joined 2 years ago. Been active on the forum only a year and now I have 44 days watched. I would have dropped anime though if I kept listening to shitty recommendations. If a person doesn't find the right types of anime shows then they won't stick around. The top rated shows aren't for everyone but few people are going to dig into the anime tags and waste days trying out shows and dropping them until they find what they really like. The best tags for me right now are Shounen, Action, Military, Ecchi, Hentai. Dubbed over subbed too.

I find that some anime is meant for younger viewers and isn't as enjoyable once you get older.

There's also far less anime intended for older viewers and it becomes harder to find shows which are relatable.

I'm not going to stop watching anime, but I do watch less of it and it's harder to find a show which appeals to me.

My sentiment exactly. I got into anime proper just over a decade ago, but picked anime back up in Spring 2019. There are so many good shows I want to watch that it'll take me years to get through them all. I'm currently going through a cgdct and 90's sci-fi/fantasy phase.

What a stupid post. Age should have nothing to do with whether you continue to watch anime or not. It's about enjoyment. It's like any other medium. If you enjoy it, continue. If you don't, stop.

I don't really watch anime anymore, maybe 5 a year. I've pretty much all the good stuff already and gotten bored.
