But Frieda is from a noble family and she has the Devouring

Didn't Benno say that the Devouring is from a child with a lots of mana born from a commoner family?

Frieda is from a rich commoner family.
Her family is in fact quite a bit richer than some low rank nobles. The only nobles appearing in the first season where the high priest and the blue robes.

Also devouring is what happens to a child born with mana that doesn't have any tool to evacuate that mana, so since nobles children are usually provided with one pretty much at birth, that's why it's "supposed " to only shows itself for commoners.
Anyway, Frieda being a commoner means that she wasn't provided with that costly tool.

Oh~

So it has more to do with a commoner family (supposedly poor) not being able to obtain the magic objects that 'drains' the Devouring from someone.

Thank you so much for clarifying my doubt!

Egh, not looking forward to seeing all the church episodes.

Really didnt want her to join.

Hopefully the mana goblet thing actually saves her life though.

So what about Frida? Did no one tell her about how the church could have helped her out too...?

She's already engaged to a noble. Also, between marrying someone but being able to open the shop of your dreams (as gaining money is what she likes) and enjoying the rest of your life doing what you like; and living serving the Church as an orphan with literally no money (orphans there receive everything from the church and live in the church, so they aren't paid for it, and literally possess no money) which would be Frieda's worst nightmare , for the rest of her life... Frieda would take the wedding 10,000 times out of 10.

I'm more wondering about before she made her decision. Benno kinda told Main in a bit of a "wait no one told you?!?! You should have known this" way, which just makes it seem a little odd that Frida wouldn't have at least said something to Main about it especially if it's pretty much a matter of life or death if she had known. I understand Frida going the marrying route, but that's not really what I'm talking about. It's that Frida kinda painted her way of doing it as if it was the only way so it just seems like she didn't know about it, like no one told her the church might be able to do something or...??
It just kinda seems like something was missed there.;;

Ah, yes, you missed (or didn't realize simply? ) something indeed. Because the church is led by nobles and that entering the church means contracting with them and serving them for the rest of your life without seeing your family again, the church option = "making contract with a noble and being used until the end of your life in exchange to access to items that allows you to siphon your mana regularly, and if you have mana you may be able to negotiate a better deal".

So it is NOT a different choice at all. Benno wasn't surprised that no one told Main about the church option, he didn't talk about it because Main literally refused in front of him to contract a noble and abandon her family. If she wanted to contract a noble he may have told her.

So Frieda saying contracting a noble is the only way isn't actually telling anything about her knowing about the church option. I don't think it was ever told, but she probably knows, however, because it's a type of contract that would leave her living like an orphan with no money at all, that's obviously not the nobles she went for when using her money to negotiate.

Thanks for typing that out!
I understand, it's more or less the same thing, but I guess the way they went about revealing it seems just a little off. I'm even looking back on the episodes in question now and it just still seems a little odd. However, some of this world's cultural differences are definitely a large factor in how we're presented with information. We're sometimes given really important information casually just because, understandably, some bits are just old news to others. I'll just take that with a grain of salt ans use that as a way to wave this all off.
Thanks again!

My main man Lutz deserved so much better.

And I know its been discussed already in this forum, but I can't help that feel that working for the Church which actively wants people with the Devouring and can keep them alive is so much better than being sold off as a concubine at age fucking seven.

Also, I still don't understand Frieda's ability to continue on as a merchant, and at this point I don't think I'm going to.

Cf the other threads about the concubine part, but just would point out that Frieda's case is very unique even for children with devouring. usually devoured children are taken in pretty much as slave/mana batteries. They get the costly item they need to survive but in exchange they're exploited and lose their freedom.
Frieda can continue as a Merchant because she goes into a noble family of low rank, that often isn't very rich. They're interested in the money that would make for them as well, just like they accepted to take Frieda as more than a slave to be in good term with the head of the merchant Guild.

Working for the church would be way worse of a deal for Frieda by a long shot.

Even though this is the best course of action, it is kinda sad knowing Main and Lutz won't be working as much together now that Main joins the Church

Library is heaven on earth, huh.. Well, in our time internet is the heaven on earth.. ;P Though, library is alternative heaven, really, now as well.. If you're into books.. Really living many lives through books, anime, or other things - much better, than just living one life.. ;P But it's personal preferences, of course.. ;P
Yeah, becoming just some regular helper at church wouldn't necessary let you read books, really.. As well as yeah, as I imagined - it's actually heavy physical labor at times as well, which is also bad for Myne, if not impossible at all.. So even if books are so close.. You won't be able to read them this way, unfortunately.. But maybe.. She could actually talk more with people from church, and maybe learn for herself, where to acquire books from, or maybe something, anything..
Oh, wonder, if maybe becoming pupil to this priest would be suitable idea for the Myne?.. Wonder, what she'd need to do then..
Hm?.. Priests know something about Myne's illness?..
Hm, couple of years ago there was rebellion, and nobility became less?.. This sounds extremely important.. Even if it's only one line.. It probably influences life of people today a lot..
So mana is used for crops?.. Damn.. This episode is really important, changes everything, pretty much..
And Benno cares for Myne too.. Aw.. ;P
I only don't understand, why she necessary has to live in church and become helper there.. I mean, church are the ones who need her, not she.. So she could just from time to time go to them, give them mana, and maybe they'd let her read books or something in exchange.. Or something else.. I don't really see, why it has to be so one-sided.. Well, we'll see, on what they agree in the end, but it sounds kinda eh.. Still nice episode, even despite this strange thing..

"My daughter is not a orphan!"

- Dad, im going to die in few months.

"Don't let they fool you Myne, deal right with the priest"

- Wait, you knew they could save my life?"

This episode was a bit odd. The solution for Mynes problems was in the Church, usually where ppl with cursed deseases go in first place in Fantasy... AND NOBODY THOUGHT ABOUT IT BEFORE?

So WHY Frida had to become a concubine? Ok, surely her life as a shop owner cocumbine is better that a lower level church servant/slave, but it is ridiculous how nobody told Myna this option.

It is safe to say that Myne just is going to be alive thanks to a laugh crisis.

-----------

EDIT: i watched the next episode and made a bit more sense why Church was not taken as an option by Benno before.

BUT, come on, he knew that she was chosing death.

If she knew the truth, she surely would think or ask for advice about another aproach to achieve a way of Church saving her life and she being able to not be a slave-servant there.

If she knew the truth, she surely would think or ask for advice about another aproach to achieve a way of Church saving her life and she being able to not be a slave-servant there.

Myne wasn't choosing death, she was choosing her family, and the church by default would have her taken in and never seeing her family again + grey priest status and working condition, so conditions of life way worse than many noble family would do to devoured (as long as you avoid being taken in by the worst nobles on these point), meaning she may have died even FASTER than by staying with her family (so that was the worst of both world).
So if she refused going to a noble, there was no point talking about the church since that was objectively worse. The fact that she can negotiate is what managed to make it way better, but this was a gamble. They went with the gamble because Myne screwed up and had no choice but to face the curch's attention; but if not for Ferdinand being around, this gamble would have been lost, and indeed turned as being worse than being taken in by most nobles.

Ugh, I can't believe she even thought about the Books over her family at the end even for a second kinda. I know she wants to read books bad but gtfo of here. Also I really wish they didn't show him putting the thing on her head and showing them together so early. So we already had an idea what was going to happen waay earlier especially considering she isn't a noble so there's no way he'd have anything to do with her like that.

Looks like things got sorted out with Myne finally decided to work for church, though her parents were reluctant in the beginning. Also kinda sad watching that conversation between her and Lutz towards the end.

Hah I knew it, the High Priest was actually a noble!

So the Devouring are problems of the commoners as the nobles have the magical tools to siphon the mana, it's just mana leakage short and simple right?

...and now we have political conflicts as well.
You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,
Coz he's right here! ...and he's fresh out of mercy.

She refused to give herself over to nobility in exchange for life because she wants to be with her family...but she is willing to give herself over to the church for life even though it means she won't be with her family....the writer got ADHD apparently.

Kinda sad that living on had to result in parting ways with Lutz ...and joining that kooky church. At least Myne will finally get access to those sweet, sweet books.

Also, Benno's way of expressing concern for Myne is endearing even if it's mostly profit driven.

What a good episode, and the end of this show as we know it. Seems the church is Myne's best option for survival as they have magical items that can absorb her excess mana causing her fevers.

Smart thinking from Benno too with that new contract ensuring that Myne can't be taken advantage of. Now just to hope that Gunther accepts Myne's decision of her apprenticeship at the church.

Next episode is gonna be a big one and it is also the last one.
