Note: I've not watched Gintama yet. It's very long and popular for it's comedy in spite of having other genres as well. I'm comparing it to my favourite comedy konosuba to decide whether to watch it.

Eh...

I would say Konosuba is more high-energy and dense, while Gintama is more laid-back, weirder, and has the benefit of having a gajillion episodes.

I can't really say whether one is better than the other. Granted, I've seen about 15-ish Gintama episodes in total, so I'm not an expert on it.

Grand Blue and Gekkan Shojuo Noizaki-kun are the best and I will die on this hill.

Also, Gintama imo.

I will say it's Gintama because it is perfect blend of comedic elements with serious ones....n also it's because of its satirical approach...Also all the characters are lovable and have good development....

Comedy is Objective but IMO Gintama has more higher highs while Konosuba is more consistent.

some jokes in Gintama are not funny(well really just the poop throwing jokes) like the poop jokes(in the soulswap arc IIRC), but there are jokes in GIntama that are some of the funniest and revolutionary comedy out of any medium like the Character Popularity Arc that culminates in an MS Paint opening that shit is on an entirely different league in terms of comedy IMO.

Konosuba on the other hand is consistent all the comedic stint in the show at the very least made me chuckle, and i've watched the series 3 times

We are yet to see a conveyor belt joke in any other anime. Gintama takes the candy of the best comedy anime of all time, let alone comparing with Konosuba.

Konosuba is pretentious. It has nothing to offer but aggressive fanservice and dumb repetitive jokes. It's popular only because of waifu fags. Gintama at least has some diversity

None really. Didn't laugh or find funny any of them. Though I'm picking Gintama cuz that one at least didn't have a cast as insufferable as the Konosuba one.

Konosuba is one of my all time favourite shows, especially for comedy, I can watch S1 from start to finsh in fits of giggles. I've just started watching Gintama & am 25 eps in (so have watched more than Konosuba), it is funny, but not as lol funny as Konosuba imo.

Both I'd say are solid comedy series but Gintama just has the pure advantage of having a lot more material over a longer period of time. It also has a lot of freedom as a jump series to really make the most out of things like referential humor and if you particularly enjoy things like fourth wall breaks or low brow humor you won't find a better series.

Gintama still wins by miles. Gintama can literally make jokes about anything in existance. You have to watch gintama to know that.

Both can be hit or miss. I just thought Konosuba was more consistent, but doesn't mean much when there's such a difference in the amount of episodes.

In terms of variety and character cast, Gintama clearly trumps and at it's peak Konosuba can't even hope to be compared with it.

I think Konosuba comedy is generally very simple while Gintama provides much more variety for its humor. My choice would be Gintama by a pretty large amount.

isn't Gintama also a lot of references?

I LOVE konosuba, it's great comedy. But i will prefer Gintama over Konosuba. Even if i ignore all the other genres Gintama has, it would still win over konosuba for pure comedy.

Gintama. Everyone who watched the show knows how epic of a journey Gintama is. It's an awesome story with some of the best characters ever. Konosuba can't even be compared to Gintama's awesomeness.

Konosuba is quite a good show but Gintama takes the cake every time. Gintama has made so many references and jokes about other anime and stuff about pop culture that I think it's become the Japanese equivalent of South Park (and I love SP, so it's an added bonus)

My current goal is to revamp all the character details for High School DxD and have all the characters included in the DB.

Gintama is just too good for its comedy tho. Sometimes it can be repetitive and bland but Gintama offers you a wide variety and it can make comedy out of action, fanservice, romance and drama. Konosuba's comedy is generally good and I actually enjoyed it.

I'll compare the first episodes of Gintama and Konosuba, and Gintama barely made me laught. Konosuba made me laugh in its each episodes, so clearly Konosuba is the winner for me.

Gintama's first 2 episodes aren't canon though so not really a fair comparison.

Easily Gintama. I liked quite a lot of characters in Gintama, unlike in Konosuba which I dropped 4 episodes in. I don’t know what people see in Konosuba tbh, also the memes surrounding the anime are annoying (especially useless goddess).

(Best part of gintama is the characters imo).

I absolutely love both of them, but yep Gintama's comedy is just way ahead

I guess having more episodes also helps a lot with the characters' buildup
After all Gintama has 350+ episodes and Konosuba only has 20

I watched 10 eps of Gintama, and I have no clue why people think it's hilarious: the comedy relies on absurdity, yet it's not that absurd, so the characters' overreactions, especially the over reliance on them pointing out the joke, comes off as forced to me.

That's pretty much the general concensus when talking about gintama, it takes time to get going and even though I myself did somewhat enjoy the earlier eps for me it only really gets its footing around the 30 episode mark some will say even later. Though I'd understand if that's just too much to ask for a viewer nowadays.

Not more absurd but more consistent, the gags actually do get smarter and much thought out, the characters expecially the secondary ones gets much more development instead of just being one note and depending of the time will give you the biggest of laughter or hit you right in the kokoro. Some like katsura and hasegawa are also extremely likeable, I think I can easily say it has one of the best supporting cast I've seen so far. Another thing I really enjoy is even though it's mostly comedic when it gets serious you do really feel it and I rarely remember anytime where said transition might felt awkward or forced.

As for the absurdity I think people overblow it a bit too much. I mostly see it during the parody eps, yes some of which are comedy gold. (Hope I didn't ramble too much)

I am more surprised about the vote ratio. It's 70-30 in favour of Gintama. I was expecting it to be 90-10. Just shows that how few people in MAL (particularly new anime fans) actually know the diamond that Gintama is. I mean we are talking about an anime that is listed as one of the greatest anime of all time.
