A fifth anime season for Yuuto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki's Shokugeki no Souma (Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma) manga was announced at the Jump Festa 2020 event on Sunday. Subtitled Gou no Sara (The Fifth Plate), the new season will premiere in April 2020. The official website also opened a new page, revealing a key visual (pictured above). Staff and cast members from the fourth season will reprise their roles.

Tsukuda debuted the cooking manga featuring artworks by Saeki in Weekly Shounen Jump in November 2012. TV star and food researcher Yuki Morisaki collaborated with the creators, making dishes and recipes depicted in the series. After nearly a seven-year serialization in Weekly Shounen Jump, the series switched to Jump GIGA this June and ended after a three-chapter epilogue on August 29. Shueisha published the 36th and final volume on October 4. Shokugeki no Souma sold a cumulative 19 million copies of its compiled volumes.

J.C.Staff produced the first two anime seasons premiered in Spring 2015 and Summer 2016. The third season aired in two split cours in Fall 2017 and Spring 2018. The 18th, 19th, 24th, 25th, and 29th manga volumes included five original video anime episodes, which served as side stories and bridges between seasons. The fourth and latest season, subtitled Shin no Sara, debuted on October 12 and will air the 12th and final episode on December 28.

Crunchyroll simulcast all three seasons with subtitles, and is currently streaming the fourth season. Sentai Filmworks released the first two seasons on Blu-ray and DVD in North America in August 2017 and February 2018. The third season will ship on home video on February 25, 2020.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in 2013 and simultaneously publishes new chapters with the Japanese release through its Shounen Jump service digitally. The 33th volume went on sale on December 3.

The drop in score compared to other seasons is going to be so funny.

I'm thinking it gets a 6.4 average on MAL.
I don't exist. But, maybe, I once did.

Well I guess this will complete the adaptation of the manga. Can't wait to see how the score compares to the other seasons xD
I'm no special story or anything. I'm just a manga that wants to be read, like you could find anywhere. But, if, for argument's sake, you were to adapt me into an anime series, it would certainly be....a tragedy.

Awesome! I'm not at all caught up, but it's nice to see that it seems to be getting a full adaptation.

Awesome. Whatever the quality may be, I'm just glad it's adapting the entire manga.

We will get a new #1, minna. I am so excited for this!

As a reader, I have to say, the final season will make you see the whole thing in a whole new light. <3

Also, the ending will make you want to visit Japan and meet the author to give him some proper respect. :)

The final arc was pretty damn bad overall, but lol, people are seriously overhyping it's dreadfulness.
One Piece episode 914 & 915 were a mistake.

Dude, it really is that bad. They basically introduced different kitchen utensils as weapons that have different abilities. Read the final arc and you'll see why I facepalmed so hard. It lost the charm and beauty that made the show/manga great.

Here's to hoping they do an anime only ending, without the Blue Arc. Please let this be the case.

On another note, at least remove the f*cking main character tag from Megumi? She is no more important than any other side characters yet gets away with the f*cking main character tag.

Why are characters who don't appear this season on that visual?

Seriously I know they are only in the background but still they have no business being there reminding us of their pathetic non-importance.

I would not be upset if they decide to take some liberties with the final arc haha.

1- new villian too op
2- love rival
3- character regression
4. yuki morosaki not involved in the blue arc (Morisaki is the brains of all the
recipes used in the series. The series officially lists her as a"collaborator").
5. removed almost 70% of cooking from the manga (meaning showing only the results)
6. cooking with some kind of a weapon like CHAINSAW and more
7. foodgasm was no longer interesting
9. dealing with nakiri's family again.
11. rushed
12. plus the epilogue be like: wait...WHAT...THATS IT !!?
13. from comedy to (worst drama and romance

and more

Have not read the manga but will still watch to see what it will be about
