Looking for a manga or an anime for a friend

all i know is, it is an old manga/anime that people hunting monsters and then brought parts back to gain experience
And that experience was tattooed on their arm. it is from the early 2000 i think.
Any suggestions work.

I know you said it’s an old anime or manga but just in case I’ll say that your description sounds exactly like DanMachi (2015). Everything is exactly like you say except the tattoo is on their backs.
