https://www.reuters.com/article/us-paypal-pornhub/paypal-halts-payment-support-to-pornhub-models-idUSKBN1XO2SV

(Reuters) - PayPal Holdings Inc said on Thursday it had stopped payment support to PornHub’s models after it found the adult entertainment website made certain payments without the permission of the payment processor.

“Following a review, we have discovered that PornHub has made certain business payments through PayPal without seeking our permission. We have taken action to stop these transactions from occurring,” PayPal said in an email statement.

PornHub, owned by Luxembourg-headquartered company MindGeek, said it was “devastated by PayPal’s decision to stop payouts to over a hundred thousand performers who rely on them for their livelihoods”.

MindGeek did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.

-------------------------------------------------

they need to clarify what they mean by "certain transactions without permission" because it really just looks like processor paypal trying to be moral police again
if stupid deplatforming/refusal of service like this keeps occurring, will probably push more people into crypocurrencies.

My guess is this is something to do with FOSTA-SESTA the bill that single handedly turned the internet into a puritanical hellscape.

I think this is due to FOSTA-SESTA not NPCs from Twitter or the media and I doubt it's Paypal's doing either, as much as I want to blame them. Even so, I want to know what these suspicious payments are.

NOOO HOW AM I GOING TO PAY MY GIRLFRIEND'S NOW?!

I'm surprised people would even pay them at all unless it's some kind of premium content.

Banks and payment providers giving sex workers a difficult life existed well before FOSTA-SESTA, that bill just made it easier for them to target internet sex workers specifically.

It's completely tragic, but this isn't the result of some no-lifers on twitter or some recently passed bill. This is just a symptom to a more widespread epidemic of systemic discrimination against sex workers, and that's been a long-term issue, even in countries where things like prostitution are perfectly legal.

So it is, so it's always been. This is a long-term problem and this sort of thing happening is inevitable unless we recognize that, well, this shit goes well beyond what's happened just within the past couple of years.

Very sad. People can't get paid for their work because some suits in an office somewhere with outdated puritan (hell, one could legit call this kind of shit far-right) values don't like it. What a world...

What? Crypto currency like Bitcoin uses energy because it's it's based on computer calculations for it's value and due to where the power comes from it's worse for the environment than paper or other digital transactions so what are you talking about?

Fair enough (aside from underplaying how FOSTA-SESTA effected more than sex workers but the internet as a whole) but PayPal isn't quite a bank. For one thing you are charged for the service and for another it requires you bank account number to even have an account.

that is the thing more computations means more energy use so more global warming due to burning more fossil fuels

Dont see how that would increase investments. It just wouldnt. It would only increase money laundering.

investment in terms of programming too is what i got in mind since once cryptocurrency becomes more widely use then a lot more genius programmers will try to solve its global warming side effect

That takes changes to the hardware's power sources not simply software changes.

well cryptocurrency is software so they can improve the code of it, bitcoin for example takes more computation as its database or userbase becomes more larger so they need to improve that

Time well spent here then! I'm sure those models would've made everyone's smile bigger if they got paid tho. Just saying, now the site might not have new content for like a day. #NoFapNov lol

No idea what the undisclosed payment violations are, but the porn/sex industry has always been high risk. People in Cali just got hit with sex trafficking charges lol. This is only a symptom of society. You wanna buy your kinks but when wifey or whomever sees the transaction statement, you swear it wasn't you and somebody dun defrauded your ass!!!
Like, Patreon was just a level of obfuscation between porn/sex, what have you and payment processors. They was always wise to this until it got to be a problem like incest rape games and shit lol.

Anyhues, this is just another bold move by the Patriarchy resistance forces to crush the thot. Thot better learn how to crypto to get them beat cuck bucks.

To me it looks like they tried to avoid fees by using private transactions rather than declare themselves a business to paypal.

when did you become a radfem and start using radfem terminology like cumbrain or is this some kind of reverse incel psychology where incels adapt radfem faggotry

oh god theyre mingling, the two fucking yikesy groups who shouldve never intersected, alert alert
well in the very least the alt right and radfems share a similar enough ideologue: they hate trannies, they hate the opposite sex, and they hate people of their same sex who are happier than them uwu

I fucking hate this cancel culture shit where companies are forced to bow down to public mobs full of garbage human beings (as well as politicians) who try to end anybody who disagrees with them politically or works a job that they deem unsavory; no longer allowing said people to use their services. A porn star isn't doing anything illegal with PayPal's services, they have no less of a right to them than anybody else. I get that these are private companies and can technically deny whoever they want of service; but that doesn't make it any less fucked up. Like I'm sure there are plenty of people using PayPal who are actual criminals; I don't care. Just keep offering me a good service and I'll keep on using it. This massive rise in targeted denial of service is ridiculous.

That's convenient, but I'm good. I've already bought enough hentai from Rightstuf; not as JO material, but still.

Paypal is free to use and you don't have to hook it up to your bank account. All you need is your personal info and card number.

No they have a fee for each transaction of a sale.

@Gan_water PayPal fees are a thing. Selling something and getting payed for it is 2.9% + some change, so the seller carries the burden of sales.

I think the PornHub payment issue is more because PayPal is mad that most of those actors probably aren't paying the associated fees more than anything. PayPal isn't exactly a payroll service, and it's dubious to claim all these people are set up to sell their porn and pay the transaction fee. I don't know for sure but that's my guess until someone comes up with more details.

Oh okay I didn't know that but you don't actually have to sell your wares with Paypal. You can just have people send you the money, and then there is no fee. I mean, that's how I've been getting paid for art/hentai comissions so I hope there is no fee LOL.

It's pretty much free to use :P

Guess that's how they make their money, though.

Far right is exactly what I'd call it. I'll admit I'm not a fan of the western porn industry, but if they're going after normie porn I can't imagine how they're going to tackle other things
