Ghost in the Shell is called Ghost in the Shell. Same for FMA. Same for Now & Then, Here & There. Same with Blood Blockade Battlefront. There are plenty of series where the official English title, chosen by the authors themselves, appear in black and white, spelled out in the OP, on official materials, etc. There is no reason for GitS to be called Kakusei Kabanana Desu in the database. It makes it extremely difficult to navigate the site and my own list when this place prefers to use titles that no one else has ever referred to the show as.

GitS officially uses both titles for certain items 『GHOST IN THE SHELL/攻殻機動隊』. But for some they only use 攻殻機動隊. IIRC no item in Japan is solely titled with GHOST IN THE SHELL in it. So MAL changed it to reflect the most used Japanese version which is just 攻殻機動隊.

FMA is titled as such due to when MAL was first created and there was no main title guide. An Eng title was chosen for many anime, even those that never had an official Eng title. It will change over when the manga changes its title first. About 1-2 major franchises a year change over, that was what the admins decided as a good ease in. GitS had its manga change so the anime could then update as well.

While it's nice that Japanese creators add English to their titles and sub-titles, it doesn't matter when the official title as listed on the official website, studio website, TV airing schedules, commercials if they don't actually use it. The Eng titles merely end up becoming decorative eye candy.

As far as I can tell, Ghost in the Shell has always had "(The) Ghost in the Shell" on even its earliest manga incarnations. It's entirely irrelevant what they call it in Japan, since it's known as GitS in the entire English speaking world, and it's been that way for like 30 years. There is no confusion or ambiguity there, whereas I guarantee you that 95%+ of people using this website have never once uttered the Japanese title. It's absolutely ridiculous that the name was changed.

And your second point makes no sense. They don't use it? The title being on every material related to the series IS using it. Hell, BBB's season 2 only makes sense when used in conjunction with its English name, same for its sequel manga, BBB Back2Back. Nightow is a huge ameriboo and chose the title himself for overseas audiences, and directly references it whenever he needs a subtitle.

Ok but MAL is not a English only website, it is an anime database giving factual information of romanized titles. The MAL main forum is required to be in English-only though, as per forum guidelines.
Besides, the USA only 20% of all MAL users. Brazil is the second largest frequenter of the site so why not have the main titles in Portuguese? People from countries where the native language isn't English is what comprises most of MAL's userbase.

>The title being on every material related to the series IS using it.

Visit the official Japanese websites and see what title is in the kagi.
Here are the Arise films
http://www.kokaku-a.jp/arise/product/
Notice that "ghost in the shell" is not a part of the title for the DVD/BDs.
Notice the News section does not have the English there either http://www.kokaku-a.jp/arise/news/
The films are Koukaku Kidoutai Arise, not Ghost in the Shell Arise.
Ghost in the Shell is used as a sub title in the top left corner for decorative eye candy.

>Nightow is a huge ameriboo and chose the title himself for overseas audiences,

That's literally the purpose of the English section of the title category on the anime pages

The main title section is for romanized titles only.

Any web traffic analysis company will list it. Alexa, Compete, ComScore, Quantcast, SimilarWeb, etc.
Each site functions different when you see the stats off by a little bit.
Like Alexa takes the average country frequentors from the moment the site was created to tell you the metrics for this current month; while SimilarWeb only looks at the previous month data.
