If there's an isekai-related trend i want to see die more than any other, it's these fucking non-stop MAL threads about it.
Every single day, goddamn.

I said it before in an other thread and I say it again: Hopefully it will be good Anime. Because if it's an Isekai it can't be good, you know?

I know that (I love me some Konosuba, Saga of Tanya the Evil, No Game No Life & Re:Zero), but similar to how Mazinger Z caused a slew of giant robot anime in the 70's (Gundam & Evangelion would also do this in the future) or Tenchi Muyo causing harem anime to become a staple. I just want to know what people are thinking will become the next big thing in anime.

I could be wrong but I think romantic comedies could come to bigger prominence in the near future. Not as big as Isekai because that already taps into a huge demographic comparatively speaking, but there are a ton of popular romcom manga that have yet to receive adaptations and I think that's something that is something the anime industry is currently light on.

I think we will get plenty of yuri and yaoi adaptations compared to the past. But they will never be dominant in the scene like Mecha, SoL, CGDCT and Isekai enjoyed at different spells.

But we are definitely entering a time when old anime are being revived. So, I am expecting plenty of sequels/remakes to come out irresepective of genre or demographics.

I don't know, I always appreciate a good slice of life, but it will never be a "trend".

But is there really any need for isekai to go away, when it can just become one of main anime genres.
There is so much potential with it.

I do, however think that it would have been cool if we got more futuristic / cyberpunk titles - it would have been interesting to see how different studios would explore their popularity.

I recall seeing very similar threads as this one. How many thread makers look up the thread they want to make, before making the one they want to make?

Hypothetically speaking, IF the isekai trend were to die, I think the harem/ecchi genre would take over again. I mean, it's already hand in hand with isekai.

I must say that I'm not even seeing the flood of isekai that others complain about; but I'm also not really a seasonal watcher; a lot of things I watched came out years ago; I have very little conception of what is "currently airing", eventually it wil get recommended to me in some way if I like it and then I'll try it.

I love a lot of isekai but I don't think it will be as popular of a gerne in say 10-15 years from now, though I consider it to be the landmark genre of the current era of anime. Landmark genres such as the mecha, samurai or magic girl genre still get anime but nowhere as much as they did 15-30 years ago.

Also I would love to see Production I.G do more sci fi anime (since Ghost in the Shell was amazing.)

I'm not against isekai, I'm just curious in seeing how anime will change in the distant future.

Because isekai is the cool thing to hate at this moment. Don't worry about it, they'll find a new hate bandwagon to jump on sooner or later.

Fantasy

Majority of isekai have a fantasy setting, so if you take the re-incarnation element, you keep the fantasy part.

Normal-ass fantasy with gender-even ensembles and no game mechanics.

Why the hell is this impossible these days?

edit: Oh wait you said would be popular, not should be popular. Realistically it would probably be battle shonen or non-isekai harems again. :/

No matter what genre takes over, its a fact that some people are never gonna stop complaining about how tired they are about this particular genre.

It doesn't have to be isekai to be successful, any adventure or rpg anime would get popular if done right. Toriko is an anime about food which is a no for me but they've done something right there since they did collaborated with one piece and dragon ball.

I'd like a trend of reboots of shows that are either old and need to come to light with todays standards in animation quality ,style and voice acting, or reboots of shows that had shitty anime but good manga (Like Tokyo Ghoul, especially :re!!)

The most popular genre in manga now is reverse-isekai ( main character is a girl ) it's called "otome" genre because most of those manga are based on otome games
