Yeah I have a pretty seething hatred for r/anime for a number of reasons, which relates to my next point: Forums are my favourite form of social media by far. Twitter is close second. Then Reddit. I don't count FB. Thing about forums is everyone is equal. When you post, it goes in to the thread at the end, and bumps the thread to the top. Every time. Or if you're starting a new thread, it again goes to the top every time. There is no lazy like or dislike feature for people to cast judgment. If you have something to say to someone you need to make a post and quote/mention to reply. Forums are easily the best place for real discussion. There's no heiarchy of karma. And the popularity of the post doesn't make it more or less visible (to an extent, obviously if a thread isn't getting replied to as often if won't appear at the top quite as much). Forums also make long-form communication easier which is how I prefer to comunicate. Throw in how MAL has a userbase which is about as close to a group of like-minded people to me as I'm going to get online outside of Twitter bubbles (which offer no conversation because you can't really have conversations on Twitter). Lastly, this forum has a nice degree of customizability. There the avatar, the sig, but also the profile. And if I really want to know more about someone, I can look at thier list and compare our taste in anime. |

| Ah. So the main reason is that I'm pretty invested in my own anime list (I kinda neglect my manga list, sadly), so while I'm here, I usually think, "Might as well check the forums". Sometimes, I'll watch an anime and browse the forums at the same time, that way when I'm done with the episode, I can just head on back to my list and update it. I also like forums. |
