Such a relaxing episode even with the club members preparing for the festival.

Satowa's feelings are very much real and evident now. But in the meantime, the club knows how important their roles are for each other. Satowa in particular makes an impression with Kudou together. When they were alone briefly, it felt kinda different than before.

Oh, their performance for school festival is first season OP! lol~ Nicely written, NamiDai's character. So the senpai visited and they get to perform for everyone including her

Wow @ the end with NamiDai's character's expression when trying to find the piece to perform and found one.

Edit: Tone (first season OP) Koto ver., which performed for school festival, is available for download starting October 30.

Well their feelings still need to be sorted but it looks like they are going the right way.
Now we have to wonder how things will turn out.
It needs to be sorted before the tournament tho else they will be in trouble.

After the growth in their relationships its small wonder that the feel of the group will change lol. The culture festival though sure provided a nice change to the teams pace. Hiro's determined attempts to deny her feelings was just adorable. The reunion of Takezo with his former upperclassman though was both cute and hearwarming as he was able to show that their cherished club not only escaped disbandment but also flourished as well. While love can indeed serve to upset the balance within the club when used correctly it can also be used as a strength as well if used correctly. The qualifiers though important to the club as a whole is especially important to the seniors due to the graduation. Overall a solid ep that while showing the advancement that had transpired between Takezou and Hiro and Chika and Houzuki also did well to show just how far the club has come since the beginning via the intro of Takezou's senior. At the same time the revelation that this last chance at the nationals will be the last for the seniors also created an impressive sense of determination within the club to make this a success and repay Takezou.

Good episode.

The sensei, Takinami's reaction when he found the piece. It was the same piece Satowa once played. :O
Looking forward to seeing Satowa's reaction.

So it's Hiro's and Takezou's last chance to go the finals.

In last episode I talk about how it's bad decision to make romantic relationship affect performance
This episode makes it worse, they make both women be the one to falling in love first
I think the myth of women are emotional has to be eradicated, all women I know in real world are very strong and no matter what their personal situation is, it's not affect their performance at all.

Great episode as always.

Loved seeing Hozuki in her outfit, cute.
Takezo's and Mashiron's interaction are great, loved the moment where she was genuinely happy Takezo was able to get the club with members and perform on stage. :)

Suzuka-chan MVP.
His role from here on out is very compelling and I can't wait to see more of him.

"Their last chance". Sensei didn't hesitate to go hard with his thoughts on what they wanted to classify at the nationals, and saying that will be the last opportunity for Kurata and Kurusu to participate in a koto competition, so all will have to work hard, senpais for their kouhais and vice-versa. Also, I hope those ships don't sink in.

This keeps getting better. Kurusu fell hard for Kurata, and she tried to get rid of her feelings so they wouldn't damage the club. She also got jealous, and took it out on him. But at least she made things right almost immediately, and thanks to Takinami-sensei, who was really cool, she was able to come to terms with her feelings. And Takezou is so cool too. I didn't even stop to think about how hard it must have been for him to remain as the sole member of the club while being bullied, but he made it.

His senpai was really cool too, and I'm glad she showed up. Kudou, and Houzuki are so awkwardly adorable too. They have trouble understanding, and being honest with each other and with themselves, but they care enough to not be comfortable keeping a distance. And they made up in the end even though that nice moment was interrupted. That pressure though, Takezou and Kurusu only have one last chance. But I believe it's possible with Kudou's innate talent, Houzuki's mastery, Takinami-sensei's help, and the efforts of Takezou, Kurusu, and the others. It sure won't be easy, but they will have a shot.

Struggling hard how to rate this episode. The pacing was weird: first there's discord in the club room, so much so that it affects even their practice - but then they apparently pull off a very good performance that even amazes Kurata's senpai? Suzu-chan (how does Kurusu get away with calling her teacher that right in his face?) dropping the bomb on them with how it's the 2nd years' last chance for nationals made for some nice heavyweight drama, and the school festival shenanigans are always appreciated. But DEAR GODS, why is this story turning into josei? Enough with the damn couple bs, I did not come to this anime for goddamn romance. It even felt quite a bit forced, with how it's just awkwardly keeping them apart, going back and forth between "let's try" and "no I can't", without any particular reason. If this continues, it'll just ruin the series for me.

i know that one of the genre of the anime is DRAMA, but the drama is covering most of other genres and most important music .. we see drama and love trouble more than we listening to the main story the KOTO

The cloth that they were wearing is absolutely amazing and they appears perfect on satuwa and hiro (Girls xD)

God dammit this anime is so good. THEY PLAYED THE OPENING ON THE KOTO!!! So good!!

The costumes were fantastic! Even the Boys Haunted house costumes.

Demn man Suzu Sensei is turning into an AWESOME character! His guidance for these kids along with just his overall development has been fantastic.

Seems like they are going to sweep the drama portion under the rug now knowing this is Kuruta's and Kurusu's last chance at nationals. The anticipation for next week is killing me already!

High school is a long time ago for me; I graduated in 1979.

Relationships happen.
There isn't necessarily any rhyme or reason for them. I got fairly good at handling unrequited crushes in the end, but the one time it was reciprocated... I hadn't a clue how to handle it.
From that perspective, these make a whole heck of a lot more sense than many, and don't seem at all out of place.
Given all they'e been through, I think they're doing well.

I agree, Suzu's expression and reactions as he searched for the perfect piece were good.
That the piece he selected is the one that sounded the death-knell to Houzuki's career and relationship with her mother when she played it in the competition he listened to... oh man.
She's gonna have real mixed feelings about this!
But, if they make it all the way to the top with it... yeah.
That'd be so sweet.

The previous club president being there and seeing how far they had come was also cool. The conversation between her and Kurata was also very good.

The reactions of the various individuals and groups concerning the fact that third years, while able to compete as far as the preliminaries, won't be able to go to nationals, in regard to the previous year and this and the next, tells you a lot about what kind of people they all are.

These are all people I'd like to have as friends.

What a moving episode, I almost got a tear when I heard the first opening in the presentation of koto.
I'm glad that Kurusu, Takezo, Chika and Hozuki have calmed their feelings, at least for now. Seeing those two couples really excites my heart: ').
It was like a bucket of cold water on top of realizing that it is the last opportunity for Takezo and Kurusu, I take the teacher's words by saying that they should strive with "efficiency, openness and devotion" and turn "that" into power. I hope they succeed, ganbaru! :)

Their performance was the op of the first season right? A bit sad that we didn't get to hear the whole thing. Definitely gonna listen to it now

This is getting better and better. Did not expect that at the time I started to watch the previous season/cour. I had just expected your usual school club anime.

But the romance here is getting a lot of screentime. It is important enough. (Affecting the chars behaviour and their training.) I don't know why it didn't get the romance tag yet but the one with the fox god from 1-2 seasons ago is romance though it doesn't contain any romance ha ha. Much better than other shows that are romance only.

I really like how authentic/realistic the behaviour is. Naturally shy instead of some unnatural misunderstandnigs to prolong the romance plot. Also the teacher is good at reading the atmosphere and recognizing for both possible couples that theyl ike each other. (Or at least for one of the partners in those couples.)

For one couple he even talked with the girl. For the others the "closing the door" scene was pretty obvious. :D

Great show. Really strong season this time - for romance. When I usually don't like romance most of the time and this season we get more of Hi(gh) Score Girl as well. Pretty rare so have 2 showas with lots of romance focus that are aiming for 8-9 score maybe even 10 (at least for me).

Damn, this was a touching episode!

Looks like the Romance Department has come a long way in this episode alone on both fronts but I think it's fairly obvious now that at least one of the two will be held back a bit. I've no problems with that really but I really hope both, considering Kurata's feelings are mutual of course, will work out by the end of the season at least.

Sensei is so logical and witty, I'm starting to slowly appreciate him now. And boy, he's got the words too, that was a very brilliant little pep to Kurusu talk from him right there. "Turn it to Power" - huh, I'm looking forward to seeing Kurusu deciphers those words although I'm pretty sure her kouhais sudden dedication will delay that onset.

Kurata's meeting with his senpai was really nice and well-crafted. For a second, I was expecting some needless extra drama but good to know that wasn't intended at all. Kurata reassuring her regrets was a really nice touch too.

Got to say, these characters looked really great in their uniforms though.

Needless to say, but I'm obviously looking forward to more!

I am glad this episode didn't focus too much on romance. The romance in this anime feels quite forced so far.

Nice to see a reunion with a character we've only seen in flashbacks.

About the pairs, yeah, they are cute but also quite sensible, I like how they were able to become focused when it actually mattered. And Suzu-sensei is so good for them, his words to Kurisu were really spot on and it's nice to see him more involved now.

Romance tags on MAL are weird lol. Hanasaku Iroha which romance is literally one of the main plot points isn't tagged with the genre, and something like Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san which has fuk all romance is tagged with such

I think the teacher made it clear that having feelings toward someone isn't particularly wrong and it actually can be a driving force so the thing with hiro and kurata is basically solved for the meantime. As for chika and hozuki they both seem to be interested in each other and not the case of only hozuki falling in love with him ,and i don't think this will cause much problems when it comes to playing as they both understand what's important and that is reaching the nationals.
I think they handled the romance thing in a much better way than other anime ( well atleast for now )

The feelings are all over the place! They're all still really indecisive about their feelings.. but little by little, they discover themselves a bit more. It is what it is, and by going with the flow, and by getting in touch with their inner selves, i think they will eventually manifest their feelings openly, that's what they are doing, and i like it (talking about the wishy-washy romance here).

And now, we got to know that it will be Takezo and Hiro's last attempt at the Nationals, and that puts the pressure on the rest of the members. But like i knew they would, they took the news seriously and now they are really fired up to train hard for the next 2 months. Now it begins, the road to Nationals is under way and i couldn't be more fired up! Bring out the next episode please!

This episode had great moments as well! I'm glad the girls found their resolutions regarding their feelings, and their wish to go to the nationals getting even stronger. Seeing Takezou's old senpai was nice, she's really lovely. I was sad because the episode was clearly rushed, but it was still good. I'll check the manga later to see the scenes that were probably cut/fast-forwarded. I was so hyped when they played the first opening! I wish we could've listened at least the full TV SIZE version in koto form. But I'll download it later anyways.

I hate whenever a series talks about third years leaving ;__; I can't take the idea of a group of characters we've come to love being separated. But I'm glad that Takinami-sensei let the first years know that, which really motivated them.

What a load of bs, what myth? women ARE emotional (men too), specially when you're talking about teenage girls discovering love or at least "true" love for the first time, did you ever talked to a woman that work in a female competitive envoirment? because i live with two of them and saying women never let emotions affect a "performance" is a big fat lie, also this is a work created by a woman and girls struggling with stuff because they're in love is what you see in more than 90% of romance mangas/books written by women aimed for women! Talk about myth lol

After all that stint from both Takezo and Chika, Kurusu and Hozuki are feeling wishy-washy about their own feelings, that when translated into skill, it reeks the same downward feelings pre-nationals back in Season 1, even though the atmosphere is washed down a lot a.k.a the school festival.

It's rare for even a single Koto Club graduated senior to come see Takezo's reapings of the club he changed for the better. But Kurusu's misunderstanding just stirred jealousy and rivalry for them to prove where the club stands a.k.a love against skill. Absolutely never thought that the 1st season OP would get a koto play as cameo, simply brilliant.

What I think was blatant that the seniors left Takezo to rebuild the Koto Club from scratch, it definitely left a very heavy shoulder on him, it definitely refined him to who he is today.

Takminami-sensei sure knows how to take hints between both girls, but especially to the club, he pre-plans TO THE SUCCINCT. Especially for Takezo and Kurusu whom will have their dreams shattered if the next step's footing should fail like the Nationals before.

THE LAST CHANCE to make things happen before it all comes crashing down like rain. Even if romance plays a part, the club is the most important at this time.

I honestly hate drama purely based on misunderstandings but fortunately, the problem between Chika and Satowa didn't last long.

On the other hand, I'm so glad with the great character development Takezou is showing this season. The talk he had with his senpai and the way he reassured her worries were quite pleasant to see.
The same goes for Takinami-sensei's character as well. I'm glad to see him being involved in the club duties like a proper club adviser.

Well, these last two romance-focused episodes were nice while they lasted but now, the Koto will return to be the main focus of the series. That said, I hope the next arcs can be of good quality.

P.S.: Just saying but Takezou really SHOULD keep that new hairstyle.

Seems like the last forced romance episode. Funny how Satowa regained immediately her focus after she learned about the "last chance" of senpais and "acted cold" on Chika. The koto machine has returned as it seems! Hope that Kurata with escape with his senpai away from the jealous Hiro...

More seriously, a lots of nice scenes, the art is quite good, but I tend to be disturbed by the eyes and the scale of faces which tend to vary over time (Hiro in particular and in previous episodes this happened too; is it what you meant by "off model faces" @Hatsuyuki). Sensei was cool as always, and it was interesting to see the opening transcribed in koto (it was a bit too short however in my opinion).
