During the Assault Lily Exchange Meeting: Hajimemashite event on Sunday, it was announced that the multimedia project is getting a TV anime produced by Shaft. Titled Assault Lily: Bouquet, the series will be directed by Shouji Saeki (Houkago no Pleiades, Medaka Box) and Mieko Hosoi (Aiura) will design characters for animation.

Project Synopsis
In the near future, humanity faces imminent destruction from mysterious creatures known as "Huge." The world wages war against the Huge, and develops the anti-weapon "CHARM" (Counter Huge Arms) by combining science and magic. CHARM works more effectively when used by teenage girls, and those who use the weapons are revered as "Lilies." The Lilies are trained at military academies called "Gardens," which also serve as bases to protect and advise people. This is a story about girls who aim to become Lilies so they can protect Earth.

As part of the project, a stage play by Bushiroad will feature actresses who are also voicing the characters. Assault Lily: League of Guardian will take place at Tokyo's Shinjuku Face venue from January 9-15.

Cast
Riri Hitotsuyanagi: Hikaru Akao (Back Street Girls: Gokudolls)
Yuyu Shirai: Yuuko Natsuyoshi (Journal of the Mysterious Creatures)
Nouvelle Johan Kaede: Mikako Izawa (Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid)
Fumi Futagawa: Rimi Nishimoto (BanG Dream!)
Tazusa Andou: Risa Tsumugi (Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou)
Thi Mai Yoshimura: Haruki Iwata (Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight)
Shenlin Kuo: Sana Hoshimori (Hashiri Tsuzukete Yokattatte)
Yujia Wang: Hikaru Toono (Bermuda Triangle: Colorful Pastrale)
Miriam Hildegard Von Gropius: Takahashi Karin (Dr. Stone)

Assault Lily is based on the range of 1/12-scale dolls and figurines created by Azone International and acus in 2013. The project also inspired two novels—Assault Lily: Ichiryuutai, Shutsugeki Shimasu! and Assault Lily Arms in June 2015 and July 2017, respectively.

Okay that's a weird title for Madoka 2 but whatever.

A project involving Shaft and Bushiroad?
That's enough reason to get me hyped!

That visual really makes it look like a bootleg Madoka rip-off, though.
Not that it's a bad thing.

Sounds like an action + shoujo ai anime.
(I hope it is somehow, Akuma to Riddle was good, but not brilliant)

Remember seeing some while looking through AmiAmi, as in Assault Lily's, which is just the name of a series of dolls that this appears to be based on as all the models and names match. Reminds me of something like Frame Arms Girl. Hoping the story or whatever doesn't lack because of so. For now, just expecting a typical action show with a full female cast, which is nothing particularly new.

shaft and many studios have gone through this before. Moving of staff and hiring new staff isn't new. Also they still have a ton of veteran staff still working but the west only knows a few names

the director did some storyboarding for Shaft, mainly March Comes In Like A Lion 2nd season . Also, there are still pre-Shinbou veterans working at the studio and plenty of people that don't get mentioned by anitubers or news sites .
I don't know how to describe myself in a signature, so I won't

Oh wait

Sounds generic, but with a fancier title. I mean, who the fuck in the world would call Earth invading monsters "huges"? Why again it's only teenager girls again who can control those machines (it was more understandable in Madoka, but here it seems a bit cliché with science also involved)? And I don't think I'm the only one who gets reminded of Madoka and Homura just by looking at that cover art. I like to think positively, but from the synopsis alone I have my own imaginations how it will most likely play out.

I've seen those dolls before but I've never bought them as I tend to buy merch from existing anime or games. It also looks a tad generic.

Not necessarily Yuri per say in my opinion but this looks promising. Also, Shaft isn't necessarily dead, many studios will have a stage of lacking their top tier staff members (Madhouse had this happening before). It's a matter of building newcomers etc.

Looks like it's trying to go for the Madoka-Homura character inspiration thing that Granbelm tried to do.... I really have my doubts on this....
But at the same time, it's done by Shaft, so why not?
I'll give this a shot i guess

They done almost nothing this year (one short movie and some sucontractor work do not count) but they had a few projects last year and this is their second series planned for 2020 (after Magia Record).

Heh, Director Saeki and Studio Shaft go way back, when Gainax and Shaft co-produced shows in the early 2000s. Interesting reunion to say the least. Mieko Hosoi's designs are as gorgeous as ever.

An action series with cute characters that could potentially take a dark turn with inevitable Yuri undertones made by the same studio that made Madoka Magica...

It sounds like a fun time! I'm gonna follow it whenever it airs!

Oh, dope! I read about this on Ani.Me. I'm all for by just about anything by Shaft. And the project is described as "battles waged by beautiful girls with weapons" and that is the best pitch you could ask for really.
Ya boy is going to Con+Alt+Delete 2019 in Chicago! See you there!

Sound like a Akuma to Riddle with less edge meets Symphogear with no song.

And Madoka aesthetics.

Will watch first epi, just because.

Worry about the result though.

Assault Lily is mainly the action figure dolls, and I’d give benefit of doubt to series centred on product. Although they did already have novel and theatrical performance, but it’s for the “side story”, not the main girls of the line up.

Can I get an assault lily for my assault shoulder thing that goes up?
I really enjoy those "helicopter ride" memes
