Yeah, especially the 1920s.

I've been a big fan of "Nick Lucas" since I was a teenager.

Yeah, I've always felt that way.

I grew up playing my grandparent's old records when I was a kid, and because of that, I only listen to old music.

I like some big band music from the 1940's, but otherwise I am more of a Doo Wop kinda guy.

Nothing better than taking an E 100 for a ride with this in the background, I mean it'd be great if people weren't shooting only gold at me.

I recommend this channel but most of the songs are in german but there are some in english as well. Can't really recommend songs on each by each basis since I've no clue what you'd like.

In general, I'm really fond of Punk rock or any kind of "sub-genre" of rock/punk. However, I'm giving this a listen right now as I'm typing this out, and I'm really enjoying this honestly. Even though I just said I'm fond of Punk Rock in particular, I do try to give every possible thing a chance, and I enjoy most of the stuff that I listen to

Of course I do! I listened to really old oldies on the radio and those are the years of jazz, rock n roll plus original country music.

Start with the origins of rock. It started developing the sound of early rock in the 1920s and the term "rock and roll" was beingg thrown around in the 40s.

I’m into big band and jazz music, but I don’t go out of my way to listen to it often. I’m mainly into blues and folk from around that time period, like Cisco Houston, Son House, and Lead Belly.

I never thought I would come to an anime forum and find people interested in this sort of music. I came here looking for insights on some other types of music, but since I love this time period, I'll add a few suggestions.

I'm happy to see Vera Lynn in a previous post. "We'll Meet Again" is a timeless classic. Anyone who clicks on that link and likes it should check out more of her recordings.

Since Vera Lynn came up, I should add another British female vocalist who became popular around the same time. Anne Shelton got her start rather early - she started singing on radio and making recordings at around 12 years old. It is amazing to hear these early recordings; she has a deep voice and sounds much older than she is. Here are a couple of my favorites.

"Begin the Beguine", with Ambrose and his orchestra. One of my favorite performances of this classic song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bYphQ4u06E

And another of my favorites from a very young Anne Shelton, again with Ambrose and his orchestra - "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square". Vera Lynn also made an excellent recording of this song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtCA_bEREIM

And for a third example, I'll present a change of pace. I'm not normally the sort of woman who will squee and go nuts and throw her underwear at a romantic male vocalist, but if I could somehow go back in time to the early 1930s and hear Russ Columbo in person, I might make an exception. He died far too young in 1934 in an accident involving a gun. If that hadn't happened, he might have had the staying power of Bing Crosby. Here is his recording of "Prisoner of Love" from 1931. I also strongly recommend Perry Como's performance of this song from 1945. He was heavily influenced by Russ Columbo, but his style is his own. For either Russ Columbo's or Perry Como's performance of this song, I can only have one response: Squeeeeeee!

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Usually in the 40's. I tend go for jazz musicians like Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk.

Who could also forget this?

"If you tremble with indignation at every injustice, then you are a comrade of mine"

When the union's inspiration through the workers' blood shall run
There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun
Yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one
For the Union makes us strong

Oh yes, I like a lot of jazz and delta blues from that era.

ive not played it, but i noticed people mentioning the mafia II soundtrack in youtube comments of a lot of my favorite early rock suff. Gems of songs that im surprised they got so many good ones on there. So despite not knowing the game, i can agree they have great taste in music. This is 1950s though, i might look at what they had for the first game.

I've also listened to a few songs by Markos Vamvakaris. I still prefer his "Taximi Zeibekiko", recorded in 1937.

I like to some up older music as either "too old" or "too fucking 80's" Best stuff for me is usually from the Vietnam era or late 70's. Classical music and music with that hint of "americana" 40's, 50's vibe never sounded good unless it's used with another medium [and even then I'd never listen to it personally]
