Recently I came across a post in reddit where this guy talks about how anime means so much to him and that it is an integral part of his life. Another comment said that watching anime is the only way he can feel emotions and how he is emotionally withdrawn from the real world (possibly due to trust issues ). Makes me wonder how many people are rather passionate about watching japanese cartoons and see it more than just a way to kill time. So what about you, if someone came and offered you 500k to quit anime would you do it ? ![]() |
I'll take it and fly all over the world meeting anime fans around the world spending time with them, real life mal stuff ya know. Anime is better than money, that guy should offer more, like way more. 500k? I'll spend it in a heart bit and then what? I need my anime. ![]() beyond the main focus, I don't think it's necessary to end with the protagonist having been involved in everything." - Yagi Norihiro Houseki no Kuni Club |
No thanks, I’d rather stick to my anime in all honesty. Make it a million or even a billion and I doubt I’d still change my mind then. ![]() #Anime4Life be my Life Motto! #PrayForKyoAni |

I do like anime very much, but I've only seen a lot of it because I've been watching it for 20 years, not because I watch a ton on a daily basis. On an average day, I might watch 2-4 episodes, and very rarely more than that. I could definitely find something else to do with that time if I needed to. And as much as I love anime, I'd love a financially comfortable life even more. I know exactly how I would invest that money to make it last a lifetime, going into the same business my mom's been in for 20 years. I have the knowledge I need, and I live in the right market. If I had the start up money, I'd be set. She started with a tiny fraction of 500K and had to learn the business from scratch, so I could only imagine how much farther I could go with such a huge head start. If all I'd have to do is give up anime for that, I'd be more than willing. ![]() Modified by palm-tree, Sep 24, 12:12 PM |
500k wouldn't be enough. It's asking to give up a nearly free form of entertainment for only like 1/3rd of the money a person would generally make in their lifetime. So if I had to predominately switch to another major hobby the money would likely not be able to cover the length of time I would need. ![]() |

Absolutely not. There is nothing I could get with 500k that has more value to me than watching anime. ![]() |

That's not even 1/3rd of the money a person makes in a life time. I mean for someone who has the time to watch anime as an adult, I'd think they would be earning more in their lifetime than 1.5 mil. Averages usually shift based on education level, 1.5 mil I just used since that's like an average high school graduate with no college. 4 years of college by comparison 500k would only be like 1/5th of the lifetime average. Either way yeah 500k is nowhere near "drop out of school and quit your job" levels of money. At best a person could pay off their debts and not have to worry about retirement but they'll still be working most of their life. So giving up about as close to free entertainment as a person could get is just not worth it. ![]() |
I mean, 500k USD are nothing to sneeze at and i'll defitentely take them and never watch anime again. So, i'll make my brother watch it for me and he can tell everything that happends and i'll never break the rule. Bulletproof plan i tell you. ![]() Bugs Bunny has already fucked your waifu. Ok I would just play video games, where's my 500k Do you know how many good games come from Japan? Anyway to answer the question. A simple no really suffices. 500k really isn't as much as you think. Most people here saying they would take it would use it extremely quickly and go back to their normal life now without anime. Seems like a greedy and dumb thing to do. ![]() |
I'd take the money, spend some of it and then watch an episode to see what happens. ![]() Aesthetic value can be recognized or experienced, but it cannot be conveyed to those who are incapable of grasping its sensations and perceptions. To quarrel on its behalf is always a blunder. |
Absolutely not. But I'm pretty comfortable so not saying much. That said, I'm 99% sure even if I was working full-time living paycheck to paycheck I wouldn't give up anime. It is my life in many ways. And I'm proud of that. I pity people that don't have a passion - something that gives their lives meaning. For most it's their partner and eventually children. But for me it's the of art of Japanese animated storytelling. I get to live all kinds of wild, interesting, eomtionally engaging lives vicariously thanks to hard work of other passionate people. Wouldn't give it up for anything. ![]() Lastest Blog Post: Classic Anime, Passion and Reverence Watching: Weeklies: Choyoyu, Saikoro Club, Gekihatsu Boy, Rifle is Beautiful, Honzuki Recently Finished: High Score Girl: Extra Stage (8), UchiMusume (6), Granbelm (9), Araburu Kisetsu (6), Cop Craft (6), Ghost in the Shell (9), To The Abandoned Sacred Beasts (6), Heaven's Feel I (10), The Ones Within (4), Black Fox (5), Youjo Senki Movie (8), Joshikousei no Mudazukai (8) Girl: Maine (Ascendance of a Bookworm) |

I'm just trying to determine what OP really means since he keeps adding in other things besides anime. If he's saying 500k to have no hobbies the rest of your life, I would say no. To stop with any Japanese media, it would be really hard but 500k is a lot, I would probably do it. ![]() Modified by Blarey, Sep 24, 5:05 PM |
Fuck yeah I would, bills aren't cheap. I have so many more hobbies to occupy my free time. Having that much money tucked away and gaining interest would save me a lot more stress than the amount of stress anime relieves me of. ![]() |
