EDIT:

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind animation director Kohei Ashiya wrote a thread on Twitter claiming that he has not been paid for his work on the series despite the final episode airing over two months ago. Ashiya wrote that he worked on the show from its first episode and noted, perhaps sarcastically, that he was "allowed to participate for free!!"

"Just to make sure there are no misunderstandings," Ashiya wrote. "I didn't agree to something like, 'I'll work as a volunteer!'"

I would love to see a graph of each animation studio where their money goes and to who and how much so I can know how fucked over the artists are under their greedt corporate masters or if it's just the industry isn't making as much money lately.

animation director is not about animation though they are more like assistants to the character designer (the chief animation director) so they correct the key drawings especially still images to make them look like close to the character designs/models so they are not doing sakuga/animation

The industry as a whole is making more money than ever before at an insane rate. It was pretty stagnant in the 2000's did actually drop in the late 2000's and then saw a massive shot upwards in the mid 2010's.

So looking at it by pure profits it's hard to see that as industry wide it's making plenty of money. Unless it's going to other factors that we can't can't see. Honestly I would just say the anime industry is just not run well. When I look at the mentality of guys who run studios like WIT it wouldn't surprise me.

Japan's Anime Industry Worth Record $19B, Driven by Streaming and Exports

Sales to Netflix, Amazon and Chinese streamers have helped triple overseas sales in the last four years as the domestic market continues to shrink.

The domestic market, which was boosted by the smash-hit Your Name the previous year, continued falling from its 2014 peak. Fortunately for the industry, that year marked the beginning of strong growth in overseas sales, particularly to streaming giants Netflix, Amazon and Chinese platforms.

Overseas sales, which also includes box office, television rights, remake rights, home entertainment sales and merchandising, grew to a record $8.81 billion (¥995 billion), up around 30 percent from $6.79 billion the previous year, according to the AJA. Since 2014, exports have more than tripled.

Good, anime staff have it rough already with the conditions, not getting paid at all is even worse.
