hey, i would really appreciate it if you guys could give me some anime with the main character having anxiety and heavy ptsd moments, it could be when he/she hears something or sees something that makes him/her remember a horrible experience in the past. i prefer male mc but that isn't a deal breaker or anything. and it could also be a movie or series.

Vash the Stampede from Trigun canonly has PTSD, as does Juri Katou from Digimon Tamers, though she's not the protag.

Steins;Gate 0: I don't know about if Okabe Rintarou canonly having PTSD but signs of it for sure. Can't go in to details because spoilers, I can say for sure that getting spoiled would be really detrimental for this series.

Series starts here - https://myanimelist.net/anime/9253/Steins_Gate
Movie/OVA, listed as "Alternative Adaptation" but SG fans say it should be watched in between S;G & S;G 0 (Because Spoiler Reasons) - https://myanimelist.net/anime/32188/Steins_Gate__Kyoukaimenjou_no_Missing_Link_-_Divide_By_Zero
https://myanimelist.net/anime/30484/Steins_Gate_0

One of the best anime I have seen and IMO deserves #2 ranking. I also like S;G 0 and feel it's a little bit underrated. I haven't seen Divide By Zero but I am going to do series re-watch with Divide By Zero between the 2 seasons.

Re:Zero: Unsure of canon status but has signs, lesser extent but still notable.

A great recommendation! True classic anime, phenomenal protagonist who also perfectly fits the OP.

Totally agree, a must watch! Almost the same sense of ptsd as Re:Zero as its acquired throughout the series, you get to experience the cause, but SG does a much better job. The series is at least 10x better than RZ imo

I was undecided to recommend or not since the main protagonists don't really get PTSD at least so far but JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Other characters do get PTSD/anxiety about some of the main villains.

True 100%.

My main problem with RZ is it needs Season 2, apparently that might happen next year or 2021. RZ S2 announced but no date given so probably a long ways out. Can be unfortunate when it's such a long time afterwards. But who knows I guess, Vinland Saga is airing now even though people figured at the time of the original announcement that it'd be starting in 2020/2021/only after Attack on Titan is 100% finished.

Re:Zero is still good but like 8/10 good instead of personal 10/10 & possible favorite. I'm not yet done RZ but feels like they can't wrap up everything in the last couple episodes, plus I already knew S2 is confirmed lol.

Before anyone says anything else about Steins;Gate, STOP! Don't do it yet! Read the visual novel first! Even if you don't like visual novels! Even if you can't afford it!

Monster
Erased

Are you sure Erased has PTSD? I watched that anime twice and I do not recall any hyper-vigilance, nightmares, traumatic flashbacks, hyper-anxiety, or hyper-avoidance.

Berserk has an MC with what you want and so does Higurashi.

You could perhaps give Neon Genesis Evangelion and End of Evangelion a spin.

Well so far no one has suggested Ghost Hound which I expected would be first on the list.

The main character is being treated for PTSD resulting from his being kidnapped as a young child and watching his sister die alongside him.

Mahou Shoujo Tokushusen Asuka is a more realistic military themed magical girl show, the main character as well as some other side characters exhibit PTSD symptoms, other characters even note that the MC probably has PTSD. Female MC, but its a pretty damn good show and shouldn't be written off a another "edgy madoka clone" .

Maybe I'm mistaken, it's been awhile, could be it just evoked PTSD in me.

I loved Shinreigari, I gave it 9/10. Can't believe I forgot how integral the ptsd was to the story.. Past trauma, or the past and how it affects the future, is a very common theme in anime and offers a valuable life lesson "those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it" which I find ironic since Japan stays far away from fully acknowledging its atrocities in ww2.
