For me, there are 3 that come to mind. If I were to rank them in order it would be: Berserk, Devilman Crybaby, and Domestic Girlfriend.

Honorable Mention: Your Name.
but it had a "good" ending.

Let's Discuss.

Yeah, if I were you I would avoid it. You could really die by the end of it.

I guess I'm finally going to have to get VRV premium to watch Clannad.
I know Angel Beats is on Netflix.

Berserk,Texchnolyze and Hotaru no Haka are some of the first that come to mind, 3-gatsu could be a contender but only the early episodes.

The ultimate one of course is Inferno Cop every episode made me realize something and left me deeply depressed knowing the current state of the anime Industry.

Remember, you must take a break from anime to anime that I recommended, you know, in order to survive.

Also, I edited my previous post as i added some other anime that I highly recommend, too.

Nana is so good dude. I need to finish it thought. I have this bad habit of burning through anime, realize I need to savor it, slow down, and stop watching it for a couple months.

Personally, Shigurui. (a pretty diversely rated and unpopular anime...)

"Personally" I say, because it's primary or even a secondary objective was not to do that sort of thing. But it sure did rip my soul out and it's not redeemable either. And I seriously mean it, it left me emotionless and unenthusiastic about most things and even people, since the night I finished it. I'm not the same person I was. I wish I hadn't watched it, but again, god bless humanity, I'm glad I did.

Yeah, you can do that. The manga though, shit happens like you won't believe it. It's superb.

The one that comes to mind for me is Domestic Girlfriend, I just wasn't expecting to get so emotionally involved and then have such a cliff-hanger for an ending, where it didn't resolve the story one way or the other, which was very frustrating.

Chrono Crusade's ending still breaks my heart everytime I watch it.
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

Death parade and kimi no suizou wo tabetai had some pretty brutal moments, to me at least. Two in death parade in particular touched way too close on my life for comfort.

Mostly it was world war 2 movies such as Barefoot Gen incl it's sequel, In this corner of the world who's left behind, violet evergrarden and Grave of the fireflies because they all related to a real life world war and it made me feel so so helpless for a long while. I didn't watch them altogether on the same day but each movie made me numb for ages after watching them..

Nabari no ou broke me. I remember when I was in middle school I tried to look for the manga to see if the ending changed. It didn't. Im still sad.

One punch man season 2. How dare JC staff completely butcher a source material this bad?? the story saves it but man I truly lost something while watching it.

No.6, when will shion and nezumi reunite?? I effing hate when people get together and then they have to separate for whatever reason.

5cm per second. The film really speaks a lot to me, it's really super realistic so i felt more sad when watching it than other any other anime. I lost count of how many times i watched it and cried for the next hours-

I agree with all the suggestions here (at least the ones I've watched out of them)

For me, that anime was Shinsekai Yori. That show had me on edge the entire time I was watching it. Even though it's been 2+ years since I've watched it and I still end up thinking about some of the stuff that happened.
